Best hitter in baseball

Carlos Gonzalez career Home/Away splits:

Home (194 games):42 HRs/.378 OBP/.609 SLG/.983 OPS/436 total bases

Away (191 games):18 HRs/.309 OBP/.404 SLG/ .713 OPS/281 total bases

Great hitter at Coors? Absolutely. Great hitter overall, ehhhh, I'd put him in a tier below until he can get road numbers up to at least average.

Then I misunderstood the OP, I thought the question was who was the best hitter who is currently playing.......I guess he meant who is currently hitting the best in the majors.

Sorry for the confusion. Not good at explaining stuff over a keyboard.

Maybe 4 or 5 years ago I'd have ichiro on the list. But as of today I don't see him as an elite hitter in the game.

About Ichiro or the explaining stuff part?

Ichiro.

I get what you're saying trying to explain. it has to be a mix of past/present/potential, I guess. Pujols is still on every list despite a struggle to start the season. He's shown us who he is.

Yeah exactly. The best in the game, but thats been solid over their careers..not just a hitter that's emerged in the last year or so.

Exception to that rule: Bautista.

Hottest. Not best.

Did I misspeak? He's on an absolute tear. He's got double the amount of triples of #2 in the Majors and leads the league in hits. It's insane to leave him out of any hitting discussion not named Home Runs

exactly, he doesn't warrant a mention for top 5 at this stage. Maybe close to top 20
