I wonder how they are coming up with these grades. Obviously the grades are relative and value-based, which is ultimately subjective.
For example, they give Brentwood a B- in cost of living and the median home price is $555,800, median rent $1,922. 50% of the houses in Brentwood are more than $555,800.
If you click one arrow to the right Bozeman, MT is next. It's median home value of $278,700, median rent $901 (much more affordable, obviously) but the cost of living grade is a C. If that's a value-based grade, I suppose you can believe you get more for your money in Brentwood than Bozeman, but on some level just the price itself matters when you're talking cost of living. Chattanooga, TN has a much better cost of living situation than NYC for example, even if you are somehow getting more for your money in NYC.
Franklin seems like a litttle Gatlinburg to me. They don't need the tourism, but want it. The residents are there for the schools. Average home price is probably 400k. Not the Franklin of 30, 20 years ago. What’s wrong with Franklin? I get why Nashville wouldn’t appeal to everyone.
I originally come from Tullahoma with much of my extended family in the more Nashville area. If you like the suburb vibe then Franklin or Brentwood are great, but for me if I'm not living in Knoxville, stick me in one of Tennessee's smaller towns.Do you live in the area? I live in Hermitage.
Daughter and SIL line in Brentwood. She says it is snooty. Nothing really special except for people with money.
I don’t get the Gatlingburg feel but each their own.Franklin seems like a litttle Gatlinburg to me. They don't need the tourism, but want it. The residents are there for the schools. Average home price is probably 400k. Not the Franklin of 30, 20 years ago.
OTOH, if you have kids and you want them to get a good education, not a bad place.

I'm guessing cost of living includes more than just housing. Taxes in Brentwood are low because Williamson County does not have to provide a lot of social services.I wonder how they are coming up with these grades. Obviously the grades are relative and value-based, which is ultimately subjective.

I spent a lot of time as a kid in Normandy. My grandparents lived in Cascade Hollow down the street from Dickel. Granted this is hilarious to me as I now live in an area that holds roughly 1.2 million.
