Chris Hogue's punt in the 98 Orange Bowl was one of the most amazing punts I have ever seen.

The worst punt wasn't actually a punt. It was against Florida last year. :banghead:

Can anybody think of a good corner punt? Colquitt ever put it out of bounds on the 5 or something?

Not when he first started out, he had some really bad punts.

Yeah, he definitely got better throughout his college career.

Dustin Colquitt's last punt against Miami in '03. It was a driving 60+ yarder that the return man muffed. It essentially clinched the game for us.

That's a good one. A lot of people had a hard time catching Colquitt's punts. It's just too bad our guys were hardly ever around when they dropped it.

Colquitt was the first punter I remember hearing described as "able to throw a knuckle ball with his foot."

The scary thing is that he might be only the 3rd best kicker named Colquitt that I've seen. Craig and Jimmy were both probably better in their day.

Jimmy's inability to make it in the NFL is still one of the biggest mysteries to me.

I was just thinking the same thing. His numbers were better in college than his Uncle Craig, yet Craig kicked in the NFL for umpteen years and he never made it???

I feel like I understand football pretty well, but it's always been tough for me to figure out why some kickers never really get much of a shot at the pro level. I guess there are just a lot of guys who can kick a football. :dunno:

Jeff Hall is in the same category.

I know that one year Colquitt basically won the game for us, but I'm pretty sure the year before his awful punting kept the Gamecocks in it. Dustin struggled as a freshman, which is why I think there is hope that Britton will have a great year in 2006.

Did Leaverton has some big mental issues at first? Seems like his freshman year at UCLA (1996 I think) he put one straight up in the air for possibly negative net yards. If memory serves correct, that would be my nomination for worst punt.

Best punt was Colquitt against Miami in 03 that pinned the reciever against the side line and the fumble recovery that sealed the game

Can I nominate this thread for "Best evidence that football season is still a long ways away?"

And the darned thing was hard to catch when he got it just right.

I think Dustin had the highest yds/punt.
He probably had the most punts inside the 20 as well.
Dont think they kept those stats for the other 2 punters.

Yeah, that was his first game I believe and he screwed up at least two punts (might have muffed a snap on one - I don't remember).

He almost quit the team. He was huge in the Fiesta Bowl though - that tackle on Warrick was awesome - not your typical punter tackle.

Great story from goat to hero.

I can't remember any Colquitt having a bad day against Carolina. Those guys should challenge the Grammatica's to a tag team wrestling match or something. I mean they're kickers for Pete's sake!

When a kicker gets the game ball, that is just wrong.
