Wow! 3 1/2 years and an insignificant accomplishment for Slo Jo and his Cackling Ho! Can’t wait to find out the facts on how much US taxpayers paid to free a bunch of loser criminals and then add this thread onto the dump heap off all your other failed threads.

Who cares what was paid? He brought American's home. I don't quite understand why yall are questioning "value" so flippantly.

If it were your brother or dad - what would you consider the transactional value of bringing him back the U.S.?

So what of the value of the ones that we didn't pay to get back? If we are going to pay shouldn't it be for everyone?

What will it be? Nominees include:

* If I'd been President, they'd have come home a lot sooner.

* If I'd been President, the Russians would not have dared take them prisoner in the first place.

* One of the prisoners is a dirty lying member of the media.

* I like people that don't get caught.
All of the above.

What of it? I don't know how we could possibly Monday morning quarterback the why's and what ifs of an unprecedented prisoner swap that required unbelievable coordination of seven different countries. And It's hard to say what, if anything was "paid" - the big-ticket item on this swap was the FSB guy that Germany gave up. I'm more curious on what concessions the US gave Germany for choking on that dick. They for sure didn't want to give up that dude.

Maybe we should just be glad our country negotiated the release of kidnapped American's instead of questioning and criticizing the unknown nuances of an incredibly difficult situation.

You can be glad and expect more. Just like you told dude, What if that was your brother or family member that got left behind?

The drama in your thread title is exhilarating.

I don't disagree, but by that logic we would never trade prisoners/hostages. Every President has done it, including Trump.

Agreed, I’m waiting for all of the details to be released. If they ever are.

While speaking on their release, Biden attempted to get a one-liner off on the man who destroyed him so badly in a debate that he had to drop out of the presidential race.

When asked by a reporter about Trump’s reaction to the swap, that he could’ve freed the hostages without negotiations, Biden fired back “Why didn't he do it when he was president?” before walking away as if this was a "mic drop" moment.

There’s one obvious problem with his question - that two thirds of those freed were imprisoned during Biden’s tenure.

If Biden wants to criticize Trump for not being able to free Whelan, he’s not off the hook either, as when he first had the opportunity for a prison swap, the Biden admin chose to take WNBA “star” Brittney Griner instead of Whelan. Unlike Whelan, Griner actually did objectively violate the laws of Russia by bringing a marijuana pen into the country - though obviously the punishment inflicted on her for that was absurdly excessive.

WSJ: Fear of Trump Prompted Russia to Speed Up Prisoner Swap

Russia became more interested in a prisoner swap with the United States after it became clear that Donald Trump could return to the White House, according to the Wall Street Journal, whose reporter, Evan Gerskovich, was freed.

The Journal noted Saturday that “Moscow’s concerns about a potential Trump presidency speeded up the deal.”

It added:

The German negotiation team was led by the deputy chief of the foreign secret service BND Philipp Wolff, a former prosecutor who joined the intelligence agency in 2007.

Wolff’s team saw an opening when their Russian counterparts said they wanted to wrap up the deal before the U.S. election in November. Some officials deduced that the Russians were either concerned about an unpredictable Donald Trump coming again to the presidency, or they feared that [German Chancellor Olaf] Scholz would no longer be willing to help a president who rarely misses an opportunity to criticize Germany.
