TBH I think it built his brand. Outside of true football enthusiast. I bet 90% of Americans couldn't have told you who Mike Gundy was. I think as wild as it was it endeared some high school kids parents to him that he took up for his kids and helped his recruiting.

It totally did. Oklahoma St is not a traditional power and is a little brother school. You have to do something a little attention-getting at schools like that and he did.
