Big 12 reprimands Texas Tech Radio Announcers

People are getting tired of the biased officiating. It’s eventually going to affect people’s interest in the game in general.

Bias at worst, incompetence at best. Either way, I can’t think of any other job field where you can have this type of job performance and not only be protected but the people calling you out get punished.

Interesting Texas Tech fans threw trash on the field as well. I have not heard or seen one iota of that situation being reported, yet when it happened in Neyland the media would have you think we invented it and something of that nature had never occurred. I was not wrong in my assessment post Ole Miss, that that scenario likely happens at least once a year on any given Saturday across the country. It took it less than a month to occur twice in P5 leagues.

The NFL has the same problem with incompetent/biased officiating. Both the NFL and NCAA football need to take steps to improve officiating. One thing that would help would be to have full-time professional referees who spend more time training and reviewing performance.

barely any mention about Mich State fans flipping and burning cars for beating Michigan either..... but hey the evil vol fans threw a single golf ball and mustard.

CFB officiating is definitely bad and very likely corrupt in some circumstances. The sport is more ripe for corruption now than ever IMO; multi-billion dollar TV deals, coach contracts approaching $100 million, huge sums bet on games every weekend, players signing 6 and 7 figure NIL deals, a governing body (the NCAA) that appears to be disintegrating, and ultra wealthy boosters feeling unconstrained by this whole environment. Under those conditions it seems virtually impossible that money is not finding its way into the pockets of officials, especially when the officials are relatively low paid part time employees.

Having said that, those announcers sounded a lot like the fans of every team every weekend, biased and emotional. There are some steps that can be taken to improve the cfb officiating situation, but a team's radio crew constantly calling out and naming the officials in order to incite opinions against them isn't one of those steps.

Some chick journalist said that doesn’t count because it was outside the stadium. 😏

I don't think the officiating is awful in the NFL. Yeah, you get stuff like the Steelers and Bears the other night. The NFL officiating is far superior to that of the NBA.

This is going to be more and more in the future if the conferences do not clean up their acts. The choosing of winners and losers with tainted officiating is becoming more and more evident.

Oddly enough I haven’t seen any sports media figures flipping out about Texas Tech fans throwing trash on the field. Apparently that’s only an existential crisis when UT fans do it.
Did they interrupt play for 30 minutes, hit the opposing head coach, chase away their own band, dance team, and cheerleaders?

The question is why the Big XII has any authority to do such a thing.
Especially since Tech owns their own Tier 3 media rights which includes radio broadcasts. This is one of the many things that really chaps my azz about this whole thing.

Can they not just...not enforce it?

I'm thinking Tech should ignore the commissioner's ruling and see how far the BIG XII will push it. Tech's contract with Learfield says that Tech reserves the right to chose their own broadcast team...not the BIG XII. Maybe Learfield's legal team or Tech's law school should give the BIG XII Office a buzz or two.
