Yeah, true. Anyone find any other info on this situation? I guess the Big East is probably meeting at this time.

Big East Conference announces plan for football expansion - ESPN

According to this article, the BE is only looking to add 2 football teams. It seems ideally they want Villanova as one since they already are a basketball member. Memphis apparently isn't even on their radar.

Personally I don't see how it's going to work since they only want teams, other than Villanova, to be football only.

I hope the big east disintegrates, it sucks. Pitt, Cuse, and Rutgers will get picked up by another conference for their market size and academics, leaving it somehow less interesting than it already was.

I kind of agree. It's a mess when you get into the football/basketball split. They need to tell ND to take a hike unless they want to join football wise. I don't really care for having some schools be basketball only, and the BE is the only BCS conference that has that problem.

Tommy West was on Sports 56 (Memphis radio) and they were talking about this. If you look in the past Cincy was terrible in the 90s when they were in the CUSA, they were bringing in roughly same attendance as Memphis currently is for football. Same can be said about Louisville. And Memphis was actually competing with teams like that who were formerly in the CUSA.

I think Fred Smith needs to worry less about buying Memphis' way into a BCS conference and put $10m into the football program. With upgrades to facilities and the stadium they would be a more attractive team for consideration. As soon as Cincy joined the BE they got the recruits and began to turn their program around.

ESPN was reporting Villanova joining the Big East in football to go along with already being a hoops member. Is this what the BE calls a upgrade? They aren't "gaining" anything by adding any combination of Nova,Memphis,Temple. These days they should just call conferences A,B,C and so on...just seems wierd with teams like TCU in the Big East and Penn State in the Big 10 not to mention a ton of other out of region teams/conferences.

TCU joining would be of tremendous mutual benefit to both them and the Big East. TCU joins a conference they would likely dominate, gets an automatic bid, and the Big East strengthens up football just enough to keep that bid.
