Big Picture Perspective...

Granted, at the beginning of the season I figured on 9 wins and hoped for 10. We should never have lost to Arkansas. We did well to whup Florida and Alabama.

And yes, it was great to make the playoffs in Nico's first year.

But it is hard to watch us get blown out on national TV. Granted, we got a crappy bracket and if we were playing SMU in somewhere above freezing I think we would have romped. Clearly against a top 5 team though, we still have a long way to go.

I can’t say I’m surprised. We won some good games this year but never looked dominant against above average opponents. Never put together a solid 4 quarters. Issues at QB all year. Sampson kept us respectable on the offensive side.

Biggest surprise to me tonight was the defense.

We still need more talent. We aren’t upper echelon…yet.

So SEC is weak now? Beating bama and gators in rival games is far from weak!

It is... Sankey has an issue on hand as well. B1G is better than the SEC. They got more teams in the playoff, they are making more money, etc. How long until Oklahoma and Texas jump to the B1G?

Heck, perhaps Tennessee should try to get into the B1G. They seem to be the league that is winning.

Absolutely! Worst Bama team we’ve seen since before the Saban era. Florida was in the gutter and our non-conference scheduling was pathetic.
We faced one elite team all year and lost by 2 tds . OSU offense is way better than Georgias. We lost by 3 tds and a fg.
This whole conference thing is a joke, your either an elite team with talent everywhere or your just a product of an easy schedule and look better than you really are.

Tennessee made the playoff. That is progress for us. The other team had been to the playoffs 7 times.
This was our first.
Now we have that playoff experience.

There is a lot to build on and many reasons to look forward to next season.

Congrats to Ohio State.
Congrats to you man for being honest. You’re darn right there is stuff to build on a d stuff to fix. We are still building, GBO🍊

It's embarrassing and hard to take but for the LONG TERM perspective, I'd rather make the CFP and get blasted by Ohio State than go to the Citrus Bowl and beat a crappy Iowa and think we're great.

Obviously, the AD and head coach need to take a serious look at the whole program and start addressing the weakest parts. 2024 was a good year but I want us to get better, not be satisfied with what we saw this year.

I'm just gonna copy and paste this from another thread I responded to from here:

The reality is that we lose A LOT of experienced players that contributed a lot next year. And while we might want to make ourselves feel better about having a top 10 recruiting class, Heupel hasn't actually recruited better that middle of the SEC, that includes transfers...

I'm appreciative of how he got us out of the situation we were in and he's a good coach... but I don't know if he's a great coach and the guy that's going to bring us championships...

The question is... how long are we willing to wait to find out?

I’m proud that we are a top ten team, not tonight but over the course of the year, in my humble opinion.
I think in just 4 short years we have been spoiled by our progress to think we are a top 5 team, but realistically we are not yet.

There is nothing to build on. You dont lose games like this. Total embarrassment. This will be Heupel's pinnacle at TN. His offense is a joke.
Peyton Manning lost a game like this to the Seahawks and then won a Super Bowl after.

You do and can bounce back from this. It’s one game. Drop the loser mentality.

You can’t even properly describe the technical aspects and mechanics of his offensive scheme, so how can you critics something you barley understand?

Oklahoma is welcome to come get CJH whenever they choose. Nice guy but as the CEO of Tennessee football they should never look that unprepared and that’s on him.

Not sure who you hire but that was just awful.

I can handle a loss with some hard effort and a plan.

But that was just soul killing

Maybe learn the difference between barley and barely, that’s a start

Things I'm proud of:
- The team for playing after getting down against a better team
- The fans that made the trip in huge numbers, that was awesome
- A lot of big wins this season (Alabama and Florida)

Things that need a lot of work:
- Need better players on the offensive and defensive lines, absolutely got beat badly on both sides of the ball
- Defensive line is supposedly very good but this is the second time they've faced a "suspect" offensive line (other one being Georgia) and got absolutely NO pressure. Very disappointing.
- Need to recruit better receivers, they're getting no separation against decent teams

I wouldn't be surprised if Ohio State win it all though. They looked great on both sides of the ball.

P.S. I'm as disappointed as anyone with the result tonight but please stop calling for Coach Heupel to be fired. He's the reason we made so many strides over the past four years and have a bright future.

Playoffs will be like this every year 4 elite teams with 8 space fillers that fill the coffers with fans money. But I like college football so I’m game.

The season is over lmfao. What are you talking about?

In the NFL, you can lose regular season games but playoff losses end you just like this ended our season.
