Big Ten eyed Vandy, among others

I would say it would be the same as UT / Memphis in basketball. We'd have everything to lose and nothing to gain so no way we'd play that game if we didn't have too.

How is our playing Memphis in basketball "everything to lose and nothing to gain?"

The SEC would never let Vandy leave unless backdoor deals were reached to bring Notre Dame in as all inter-conference communications are protected from the Freedom of Information Act when a private university is involved. If Vandy were to leave or be forced out of the SEC the only other viable options would be Tulsa, Rice, Tulane or SMU.

Not really. However, those teams have a larger fanbase than Vandy

Occasional upsets aside, I'd rather have Vandy in the SEC then elsewhere. Better a weak team in a powerhouse conference then giving them the chance to become a powerhouse team in a lesser conference.

Even if they'd be out of the SEC, an easier schedule and more wins would probably be a net gain for them in recruiting, and long term wouldn't be good for us. It would be like MTSU or Memphis suddenly getting 10+ win seasons consistently. Even though they're not in the SEC, they're still close enough that they could be in competition with us for a lot of recruits throughout Tennessee and several surrounding locations.
