So I'm heading to the Tail of the Dragon from Knoxville. On 129 between 411 and where it comes out along the river then Chilhowee Lake I'm behind two guys on Harleys. (I'm in my car)

Speed limit is 50. They are doing between 30 and 55. They typically are going about 40-45. When I close in (because they slow down) they speed up to about 55 then back down.

This goes on for a while. There is no passing zone but several places for them to let me by. Okay, I can see not letting me by in this situation.

Then we get to a passing zone. Of course they speed up above the speed limit. I move to pass them and after I get by the first guy the second guy (who has sped up considerably) pulls out and rides the center line to crowd me over when I pass.

WTF? There's no one behind me and no one in front of them. Let me go and ride as you want. Instead, they decided to be d!cks about the whole thing.

Bikers claim they don't get the respect they deserve on the rode but it goes both ways.

And they wonder why they end up with their brains on the pavement more often than anybody else.

All bikers are fools. Especially ones with 600cc orange sports bikes.

bham, the same thing just happened to me on I-26 outside of Columbia. 2 idiots riding side by side in summer beach transit traffic going anywhere from 55-80 in the left lane.

I come up on them in the left lane and keep my distance, not pressuring them at all. They're probably doing 70 in a 70, but cars are lining up behind me. Now, I really try to avoid passing on the right to give people time to get over from the left lane. So a few miles go by with plenty of opportunities for them to get over, of course they don't.

I'm getting annoyed at this point, 1 because they won't get over and 2 because the combo of their exhaust sounds like a damn beehive is in my passenger seat. The next passing opportunity I have on the right, I take and the dude nearest me rides the centerline to push me over by the shoulder.

So I pass them, and a couple miles later I hear the beehives again and sure enough here comes the 2 idiots doing about 95 in pretty dense traffic. As soon as they get past me they once again slow down to 70 and of course cars once again line up in the left lane.

At this point I'm in Columbia and peel off to I-20 and they continue on I-26.

Long story short, I'm sick and tired of all the b***ching I hear from bikers when situations like this occur all the time.

I always blink my high beams at them a couple of times, then if they don't get over, I ride there ass till they do, or I can pass on the right

at the end of the day, they realize their on a motorcycle and regardless of the car your driving, their in a lot more perilous position than you as the driver of a car

I never did understand this. The thing with riding bikes is you are already at an unsafe position by not being in a car, seems to me one would do everything they can to avoid any contact with another vehicle.

For the most part bikers I know are pretty cool and safe. D'bags like this give them a bad rap.

I used to ride a bike but that behavior is stupid. Guess those guys don't realize a bowling ball can knock over a bowling pin with ease.

There's a big group of bicyclists that have a group ride around here every year. All the roads around here are narrow and passing areas are few and far between. These cyclists will not get out of the way.

At least bikers can run with the speed of traffic. These bicycles do only a few mph. Why they choose this road as part of their route is beyond me. It's curvy and narrow with blind curves and people drive like it is the back stretch at Daytona.

Yep, those guys were douches, but; I ride a motorcycle and have seen the exact same examples from car and truck drivers. It's the a-holes, not the mode of transportation.

At least if I'm dressed in a Lycra leotard with a goofy looking helmet nobody has to look at me & I don't slow traffic down either.
If you're a guy dressed like that it will definitely slow down traffic. lulz.

This.

I can't stand d'bag lane pluggers either. If it takes you 2-3 miles to pass someone, you're doing it wrong. Especially if you have a line of vehicles behind you.

My other rant on the trip is the guy in the Ford SuperDuty 4X4 who would not use the pull offs in the Dragon. I guess you are under no obligation to let faster vehicles by on the Dragon but I always do and always appreciate it when people do it for me.

Especially now that they have pull offs all over the place - must be at least 50 of them.

Yeah. That's why I don't bother to go to the dragon except for early morning runs or night runs. People think not letting faster motorists by adds inches to your package. All it really does is make the cars trapped behind contemplate "rattling their cage" like Dale Sr., used to do.

Hey, not cool, man.

"Biker clubs" are the worst. They think they are owed some sort of additional priveleges, simply because they are in a bit of a precarious situation without a "cage" to protect them. They are almost always in the left lane. They are a ***** to pass. And they are gonna do everything in their power to antagonize you, so that they can have an excuse to be outraged at you.

Sport bike guys usually ride in groups of no more than 2 or 3, except for rare occasions. They also go at least the speed of traffic. IME, individual bikers are courteous and easy to deal with, even though they may on rare occasion ride like jackasses and frighten you with their theatrics.
