I think everybody knows that billionaire Phil Knight is a big factor in Oregon's recent recruiting success but it looks like billionaire Larry Ellison was instrumental in Michigan flipping Bryce Underwood from LSU. An article in the WSJ says as much. His new girlfriend/wife is a Michigan alum and apparently got him to help fund the flip. Underwood's father said his son would receive ~ $15 million during four years there.

I’m all for players getting a piece of the pie, but that is screwed up 10 ways to Sunday.

Maybe LSU needs to get Chevron to sponser them?

Will be interesting to see how NIL goes after several flops. No one likes wasting money.

For example, what if Underwood turns out to be a flop? I bet the girlfriend won't convince Ellison twice... no matter how good it is.

I am a-freakin-okay not having billionaires like the Haslams meddling in UTAD affairs much anymore.

I am, however, incredibly happy that they've taken their meddling to the Browns. When they meddled, we sucked!

Money always has an impact on teams, and if spent well can give great results like Oregon and Tennessee. However, we've also seen wealthy teams make very bad decisions, like A&M hiring Jimbo Fisher, and the Haslams' disastrous string of QBs at Cleveland. Colleges below a certain threshold will have a very difficult time competing for coaches and players.

I agree with everything everyone said on this post, but can JC Higgins get me a shotgun?

Well UT could be out bid for Nico and he transfers. It could happen! None, no offense to Nico or any player, but the game has changed so much as when I was wee lad. Players signed, got a free (priceless scholly) and were loyal. Sad to me and the sport. Now, I'm in favor of NIL agreements and they deserve some compensation but with some sorta cap.
Facts are:

It's a different world and landscape.
Greed and money is the root/weed of all that is pure.
It will not stop.
It's just entertainment really.
Becoming like WWE, Nascar, Springer reality TV ect.
Year to year now a fan doesn't even who is or will be on the roster.

I do love the sport, passionately infact. Just concerned about the future cause as of now it's getting comical

Just my take only and with that said,

GBO

The ultimate loser.
🤣. A guy that derives personal worth and attention from an anonymous sports message board that celebrates kids they have no personal relation to playing a game and uses an anonymous name celebrating and naming a kid for one of the worst moments of his college life as their message board name…calling a person that has led advancements that will change trajectories in different areas around the globe for generations to come the “ultimate loser”. One of the funniest and potentially pathetic things ever…🤣

I thought Dave Portnoy flipped Underwood.

This sounds like it was Ellison or primarily Ellison:

“I want to personally thank Larry and his wife Jolin who were instrumental in making this happen,” Nate Forbes, chairman of the Champions Circle booster collective, said in the statement.

In the movie "Moneyball", the Oakland A's GM said there were "50 feet of crap" between the rest of MLB and them because of the poor TV market they were in and thus little advertising revenue generated. I can foresee this happening to CFB. There will probably be 15-18 "super teams" - all backed by billionaires who pay for coaches, players, names on training facilities, etc. These guys compete on size of yachts, houses, businesses, political influence - why not a college football team? (already happening in the NFL and NBA) Then there will be the 50 feet of crap and....... the rest of CFB.

I think NIL eventually settles out. These guys are filthy rich. Even so, they will get tired of coughing up that type of money. Especially, with no return.

I think you could be right. Writing one check for 10+ million is one thing, but having the program knocking on your door for that or more every year would have to get old quick.
