Billy Donovan: Vols Team to Beat in SEC

I'll wait and see how Golden has progressed. He is the key IMO. We'll be pretty solid everywhere else. Fla and Ky will still be formidable. Candy should take a big step back.

Very true. The whole back-court in general is a question mark. If they can get consistent production out of the SG position, along with Golden taking the next step in his progression at PG, this team can be pretty good.

Agree. SG and SF are big ???'s at this point. I've said it before, but I think the level of success for this team above the mean will depend on the improvement of Jordan McRae. If he can man the 2 or 3 spot and put his game completely together, this team will be better than I think. I just have little faith in him putting it together, which is what is tempering my expectations.

My thing with McRae is that I think for him to be involved mentally in the game he needs to be getting up shots on the offensive end. As Jimmy Dykes says, some guys are offense sensitive. The last thing this team needs if for McRae to be taking 10-11 shots a game just so he can stay mentally focused. I think McBee is a more compatible option with Maymon and Stokes than McRae even while acknowledging McRae is the better player.

I've no problem with him taking 10 shots if he is hitting them and they are smart shots. I'd really prefer to see him getting in the paint vs settling for jumpers with 30 seconds on the shot clock. Your point is value though. McBee is definitely more compatible within the system and playing a role. McRae just has the potential to be incredibly dynamic. His floor is near McBee's ceiling in terms of potential.

If our wings can be consistent, we can be a good team. Golden has to play under control in crunch time and our wings can't go MIA every other game. We know what we have in the post. If we can just get consistency out of McRae, McBee, etc then we'll be a hard team to beat.

Personally I feel it's UF as the team to beat, but you treks gear coaches say that about themselves. Also, with the trouble UF has verse Tennessee, maybe he's trying a new approach.

All seriousness though, I do think UF and Tennessee on paper have a chance to be 1 & 2, but that's why they play the games.

You're right. He can't say that florida is the team to beat.

Missouri loses 4 of their top 7 players, but they do get their leading scorer back from an injury and Alex O. from UCONN who is eligible immediately. I think Tennessee will be just as good as them because of their lack of depth, although they could give our guards problems.

They also add transfers Earnest Ross, Keion Bell, and Jabari Brown, who all sat out this past year due to transfer rules. Laurence Bowers will also be returning from injury. They won't lack depth. Their one question mark will be coaching, imo.

Missouri should be an NCAAT team. We'll say where Haith gets them.

Well you know he won't say his own team is the team to beat so that leaves Tennessee and Kentucky. I'm a bit surprised he "shunned" KY like that, but I don't think we're that far behind UK, if at all. With that said, I also wouldn't think we're clearly the better team than KY and am surprised he amounts us that spot and not even mention KY in the same sentence.

Billy D, sandbagging. His team is the class of the conference with everybody else a distant second.

I didn't understand his "shunning" of UK at the time, but it's pretty clear now.
