Billy Gonzales looking at Tennessee.???

I think Gonz is Trooper Taylor (2007) deja-vu all over again. Only this time UT catches a break at our rivals expense. It happens. The OC takes a Head coaching job or is fired and the first place you look is the person directly under him. I would've loved to keep Troop but he wasn't ready to be a playcaller IMO. Only difference between TT and Gonz is Gonz will not be calling the plays like Trooper would have been. Not only does CUM need a proven OC at UF, but he is certainly capable of luring any offensive mind in the country. Because CLK is calling the plays, UT can afford to hire a borderline proven coordinator. In the end, CUM will have to give his boy a shot, or hand him over to his rival.

I like our chances. Funny how he is THE ONLY name that has been mentioned. Funny how CLK has not interviewed a single canidate for OC. I may be sauced out on some heady orange cool-aid, but I think we get both O and Gonz before its over.

Let Strong go to UCF and Tebow go pro, and CUM and UF are royally screwed. And even better, before he rebuilds he's going to say Fk it and go to Notre Dame or the Dallas Cowboys. I'm calling that.

His offense would never work in the pro's. CUM is college coach for life. Hopefully he will be on the unemployment line after CLK is done with him.

Meyer is a college coach. FL, or Notre Dame.

I do agree with you in that he is a college coach.

But I think his ego is just big enough he would like to prove his offense could work in the NFL. Don't see it happening anytime soon, unless Cleveland threw a ton of money at him...but at some point he may just try it.

Of course it would be like lambs to a slaughter.

Spurrier?
Saban?

Maybe, I wouldn't mind seeing him leave. He would be back in 3 years, somewhere.

I wouldn't mind seeing him out digging a ditch somewhere. I can't stand the arrogant jerk.

But anyway back to the topic at hand. I know he is aware of the failures of Spurrier, Saban, Petrino, etc., but he is just arrogant enough to take on the challenge. It probably won't be in the near future, because the Golden Domers are in his near future I do believe.

ND would be about as tough as going to the NFL right now. Their level as a program has not been to expectations in 15 years or more. When you sink to that level and stay there that long your in trouble. Meyer may see that as his legacy instead of coming into a loaded FL team, where it is easy to get players. He may see it as his chance to make a bigger mark than he did at Florida. If he got ND back in power he would be worshiped by the Irish.

Exactly...and that would all feed the ego. Plus as we all know, he has said on more than one occasion his dream job is ND.

Maybe I'm reading into things like I almost always do. Maybe I'm way wrong, or maybe I could be absolutely correct. In any case it's fun to speculate; after all, that's what this board is for right? But I digress. With Miss. St. hiring UF OC Dan Mullen to be their head coach and UF playing in the BCS National CG Jan. 8, Dan Mullen had quite a decision on his hands. We all now know the answer to the question, "will he or won't he call plays in the NC game" and of course he decide he will. But that got me thinking. Why? Was it that CDM didn't want to pass the chance up to coach in such an important game. And if that's the reason why does Urban Meyer care? He doesn't seem to be a sentimental fellow, UM that is. Why would Urban leave such an important job up to someone who might have their heart, or head, completely in the game. There's got to be a lot on Dan Mullen's plate right now. Plus, with the exit of CDM, CUM has to think about who the new OC will be. With that said, wouldn't he want to break in the new guy...because surely that person would be from within the house that Urban built, right? Maybe not. Maybe he brings somebody else in. Maybe he wanted Dan Mullen calling the plays because he thought it a safer call to have the guy on his way out calling plays rather than the new guy on his way in. If that's the story, what about the two up and coming coaches already on staff. You've got Charlie Strong, the defensive guy who's up for HC jobs around the region but of course he's not calling your plays, that's rediculous. And you've got the best offensive mind left on the staff in Billy Gonzalez. He's been with you since the Bowling Green days, heck you were even a GA at CO State when BGonz played there. My thoughts exactly...this guy has given his all for you for nearly a decade and followed all the way across the country, and now that he's the most qualified coach on staff, you're going to bring in an outsider, instead of promoting him? Well, I'd be pi$$ed to say the least. I'd be looking for another job, even if it was a so-called "lateral move". So, Urban Meyer, what's it going to be? Take a chance with somebody loyal to you and live life on the edge. Or bring in the "sure shot" from outside and push your young talented "hot shot" out the door? I hope it's the latter, sir. But of course I would, I'm a Tennessee fan.

food for thought...thank you

My heart says that Urban will promote Gonzalez, but my logic and my gut both say that Urban will bring in someone from the outside. Which blows the Gonzalez to UT rumor wide open for debate.

yes I too am hoping for Gonzalez...not just for coaching, but also a good recruiter. And as an added bonus with Gonzalez, Randoll Carroll would almost certainly be a Vol.

The part about Meyer not going ahead and naming Gonzalez his next OC has me baffled as well. Logic says if he is your guy, name him so and keep the wolves from Knoxville and other schools away. Im sure he knows Lane has contacted him, thus is interested. To me this is a distraction that Meyer would dodge if he planned to promote him.

Could be wrong but all we have is speculation and chatter right now.

Florida just named Steve Addazio to be their OC per ESPN.
I think this clearly helps our chances of stealing Billy Gonzales. Good news

yep...I'm not holding my breath or anything, but I'm hoping this is a precursor to Gonz coming to big orange country:dance2:
