Bird feeders!

We have feeders on poles and hanging from the eaves. Nothing we have tried is foolproof, but the best results we have found are using these.

Robot or human?

On the poles, we install these, upside down, around the pole higher up than a squirrel can jump. When the little bastards are on the ground under the feeder they can't see the feeder and tend to not try to climb the pole.

On the hanging feeders we put the oil pan above the feeder. Again the little fuggers can't see the feeder from above and if they do try to shimmy down the wire, they tend to slide off the oil pan.

I have also been known to expend a few rounds of .22LR for the ones that can't take a hint. There's always one!
I ate fried squirrel and Squirrle n’ Dumplins quite often at Grandma’s while growing up.

I use bird seed with hot pepper flakes mixed in.
I did find a hot pepper liquid that can be stirred into a bag of seed. Also bought a suet cake with hot pepper in the suet.

I’m going to buy the Droll Yankee squirrel flinger, but not until the next time that I can get my 15% senior discount.

Ha, we never go to McDonalds, but stopped to get gas, and there was a McDonalds attached. I needed a cup of coffee. I always order "senior" coffee. It is $.69 vs $1.69 if you just say coffee. DW always says "premium roast coffee" which is what their sign says.

The acorns, hickory nuts, and mushrooms feed the squirrels in my yard. They’re content to harvest the seed scattered upon the ground by the birds, as are the chipmunks. 😁
I’m pretty sure that we feed the neighborhood squirrels through our compost pile. If not, stuff certainly rots down quickly!

Forgot about the chipmunks. They are so cool to watch. My beagle loves to hunt them but they're way too quick for him.

Yes. And worth every penny if you have a varmint problem
Here’s my collection of squirrel and chipmunk enders. View attachment 430226
Yeah, I don’t think we have a varmint problem. (Well, maybe the cat…) The squirrels are pretty much entertainment value.

There was the time that one gnawed through the cable line(!), but we got a nice new upgraded cable out of it.

In that case just grease the pole the bird feeder is on.
That’s pure entertainment value
