BJ Edwards, come on down

BJ is a fine player. But he is 50% of a Kennedy Chandler, so get your expectations in line with that.

No one is expecting him to be a KC, but he is a very good PG, hasn’t backed away from big time competition in hs and will be very good by mid season next yr, I believe.

Everyone needs to realize, Mich basically took SV & JJJ out of the game in the second half by face guarding both . It was almost 3 on 3 and KC dominated that for awhile. Unfortunately Tennessee got few stops defensively during that run

To me, that's the craziest part of it all. We have been elite, defensively, all year, and we have been able to shoot the ball well from the perimeter. And yet, those are the two things that got us beat, yesterday. Poor defense and poor perimeter shooting. If either of those things were just ⅓ better, we'd have won. Just a perfect storm of bad circumstances.

He doesn’t have the recruiting acclaim KC did but he’s an outstanding PG. He’ll be very key for the team next yr. He won’t have to be the dominant player KC was. Hopefully inside game will improve greatly.

We all love ZZ but he’s a great change-of-pace guy. I’m not sure him starting & playing 30+ every night is gonna be the answer. Teams down the stretch put challenges on him that he can’t handle physically. Edwards will be able to.
I disagree. We'll miss KC greatly. We have no one else on the roster that can take and beat someone off the dribble like Chandler did. Without that, teams can extend that defense and make life miserable for the types of athletes we have on the perimeter.

This team routinely went long stretches without doing much offensively in games. That is what got you beat with a 6 point lead late in the game.

Please point out where I said “we won’t miss Chandler”.

Apologies. I read your post as implying Edwards, while not as highly rated as KC, would step in and be a suitable replacement with ZZ keeping his current role off the bench. After rereading, I read more into your post than was there. Again, I was wrong. Apologies.

Well, yeah. But 2-18 was over a 40 minute stretch. And the poor defense was for long stretches, as well. We gave up numerous runs at the basket, and a lot of lapses on pick-and-roll plays for open looks.

Only scoring 8 points in the final 8 minutes was the nail in the coffin, but the misses from the perimeter were key for a team that has been historically good from behind the arc across the season. Just shoot 33% from 3 and you win.

6-18 and they win. But it didn’t happen. Didn’t get the best 3 shooter more than 3 shots and others didn’t fill the void.

What specifically did you see as lacking with our defense?

Poor pick-and-roll coverage, multiple unguarded runs at the basket.

Agree. I’d never let Dickinson open to shoot set shots for 3. He hit 31% but those weren’t wide open, feet set 3s. I’d made him put the ball on the floor. Tennessee had better quickness with a guard on him out front to possibly steal or another to set up for a charge
