Hi All --

I watched the highlights from last nights game against Miss St... Was wondering if BJ got to play? Is he redshirting? Is he injured? Is he in Barnes doghouse?

Hadn't heard much but thought he was in the mid of the TOP 100 recruits and figured he'd be seeing some cleanup minutes at least this year? If he really is good, I'd hate to see him transfer.

Too late for him to redshirt unless he has an unknown to us, injury and he could apply for a medical redshirt. Not sure why he didn't play last night since the bench was basically cleared.

He stands a great chance at big minutes next year if he's not recruited over. So if he did transfer it would be because the staff feels he can't play at this level.

There was a proposed rule change going around last off-season to bring redshirting more in line with football. I believe it was going to allow players to appear in 6-8 games and maintain their eligibility. Edwards has played in 7, so maybe that rule change is going to pass this off-season and Barnes knows it, so he is preserving Edwards redshirt.

Hard to say. With JJJ back, there really is no room for him in this rotation since we are now 10 deep. I don’t think he is in the doghouse, but we don’t really know. I’m not worried about it, but I can understand why others might be in the era of the transfer portal.

Isn’t Barnes on the NCAA rules committee? He might know something related to the red shirt rules about to be altered.

I don’t know anything about redshirting but I do know Barnes needs to get a true PG in here for next yr. ZZ needs some help and both Key & SV are gone. Maybe Carr is a PG but they said he’s a combo guard which ain’t a true point.

I wouldn’t dismiss adding a PG but this year we are doing pretty well with ZZ & Key running things, I feel fairly confident BJ and/or Dilione could match what Key is doing at PG.

Vividly remember several folks on here declaring Edwards to be better than Kennedy Chandler. What happened with that?

If you say so, I never saw anyone posting that on VN. Now, a couple of posters said BJ and Catholic outplayed KC and Memphis East in the state championship game and they were right. Man, you love to show up here, once ever couple of months and troll. Have a Dwight Gooden, you punk and clown

I won't rule out one rogue idiot making that proclamation, but "vividly remembering several posters" who said that...well, you'll have to show me that. More likely is that his perpetual negativity just recalls the one and automatically multiplies the idiocy to do its best to create some sour narrative.

If you could have one criticism it was the fact that starters were still in the game with 4 minutes left and up by 30 points.

Against State they were trying to work in more minutes for JJ - to get him up to speed. Once Santi and JJ depart after this season there are two spots opening up - I have honestly been impressed the few minutes that I have seen Edwards on the court. I wouldn't write him off prematurely.

You're reaching a bit for that criticism though. We had only 4 guys play more than 20 minutes, and only Santi/Julian played more than 25 minutes.

Aidoo, Mashack, Awaka, JJJ all played 14 or more minutes.

Some posters don‘t realize that the end goal is not getting walkons minutes in a blowout. It is about those 10 guys in the rotation getting as much time as possible together to ultimately enhance the chances of success going forward. With 10 guys wanting, and needing minutes, we have to get them all the reps we can get them.

Guess the question being asked is why not get him minutes in a decided game like this. We will likely be counting on him next year so wouldn't it be better to work thru some of the growing pains now vs next season? It's my understanding that he's not redshirting so why no court time in a blowout?

I mean we didn’t pull starters till 2 minutes or so left in the game. It’s not like we pulled all our guys with 5-7 minutes to go. I think people are making this to be a bigger deal than it really is and I am also now more curious if this means he will be redshirting and rule changes are on the way.

It’s interesting because I’m not sure if BJ is offered a scholarship by the Vols if he wasn’t a Knoxvillian. We’ve had a number of Knoxville kids who were offered scholarships that didn’t pan out over the years. Then, you have Knoxville kids that Tennessee didn’t offer that fellow SEC rivals offered and took, almost as if to make Tennessee look bad. Yes, Mike White, we’re talking about you. I don’t thing BJ will ever make a significant contribution here, but I hope he does.
