Since a gift to black lives matter organization is an indirect contribution to the democratic political candidates VERIFY: Do Black Lives Matter donations go to democratic campaigns? (and I mean indirect only by having a payment processor who makes it so BLM can keep its non-profit status) is the team going to be raising money for Republican candidates as well? Not sure why the boosters would be backing this much at all.

How about instead of giving it to progressive political activists, the funds could go to supporting a scholarship fund for low income black students in the stem and business disciplines - since these things will actually make a difference with things that matter in real black lives - instead of virtue signaling and funding the very people who are responsible for the problem.

I think it is time for some push back on this decision; if true. If this is allowed, there will be plenty of flak; due to the points you mentioned. Many Blacks take issue with some of the Tactics of Blm. And since it IS a Political Org, that should make a State Governed University donation strictly Taboo. Sounds like the Foreign Socialist Professors are pulling the strings.

There have been plenty of other opportunities to raise funds for
causes such as Septemberr 11th victims, Iraq/Afghan veterans, etc. and I don't recall anything done by UTAD for those.

This is going to be far worse than when they named the street for Manning and retired his number. Both of those eventually caused "outrage".

Good for Pruitt. I reckon this will get a bunch of people redneck mad about his decision, but at the end of the day he is a leader of these young men and I'm all for supporting whatever helps foster that trust and special relationship between the coach and his players. I think he realizes his impact as the coach extends much further than X's and O's and it's something Butch never understood.

Do I support the organization of Black Lives Matter itself? No. But I can respect the gesture and intent behind Pruitt's decision. I'm sure there will be some backlash and threats to cancel season tickets by certain portions of our fanbase though. The cynical point of view is that this could actually help recruiting, too.

I bet this has 15 plus pages before the end of the night......

Why does EVERYTHING have to be political now?

We live in an era of naive absolutism. People now define each other based on what they disagree on, rather than what they agree on. The utterly human nature of conformity and tribalism never went away, it just changed its spots.

Yeah, if UT backs off from this decision some entitled rich white Antifa kids will set fire to Neyland like the Atlanta Wendy's.

Lol. Pruitt has 7 figures to protect. I'd be hesitant to point to much beyond that.

I take no issue with what he's trying to do, he's trying to build bridges and help his community. There's nothing wrong with that

Pruitt needs be concerned about the entire community. Like the Silent Majority that never loots and burns stuff. Tennessee is a fairly Conservative State; as are a hefty % of UT Game attending fans; who cause no trouble, but have Ideals.

Before everyone loses their minds

Sure - because that is what BLM is all about, "direct helping people" not any political action at all, no sir!

I know Pruitt is perhaps trying to thread the needle but I am saddened for his signaling any support to this folly. That does not provide the example those young men need to actually get to the next level.

Look at Jeremy Banks - he isnt running around saying "I be good sir", he is actually DOING THINGS THAT MATTER, police ride alongs, helping other people, talking to kids, etc.

All these schools and coaches and public figures are TERRIFIED of the BLM mob coming after them. Would be nice for someone like Pruitt, who by all accounts is making real differences in not only black lives but the lives of every player he coaches, to actually show some backbone and explain to these kids the truth and continue being an example. But such is the nature of fear in this era.
