Black Sails

Really? I thought it was great. They are building some serious depth with John Silver right now.

It never went anywhere and didn't make look forward to the next one. Blackbeard was a bit of a letdown after his debut in the first episode. We will see.

Filler episode, small things happened rather than large ones. Flint needs to come back from crazy town. Odd really, they force that gay scene on us only to turn around and have Flint going crazy over Miranda's death, a woman he couldn't have possibly loved.

Flint likes women. He had a bisexual 3-way relationship with a man and a woman. It was weird, and offputting, and was certainly a gay point in his life, but remember he was giving it to Miranda pretty good in a scene in Season 1.

I would say bisexual at most, but I don't even think that. I think it was just a point in his life. He definitely loved Miranda.

Someone at work recommended Black Sails. Just got caught up. I'll admit the gay part threw me and I'm not sure what it really added to the show but other than that odd bit it's been great. By the end of season 2 you see some really good character development. I'm fully hooked.

I am thoroughly enjoying this season, but I feel like for the first time, Flint and his crew's story is the weak link here. A mutiny/war is happening in Nassau and we keep having to watch Flint's battered crew find a new, clever way to survive on their own.

We all know they're going to end up back at Nassau, let's speed that process up.

I disagree. This is some great writing happening here. Flint having disappeared with his crew and getting stuck in a doldrum, Vain having to flee the island, Rackham basically having to do the same, the British temporarily taking over the island. This is all buildup for an epic fight. We all know Eleanor is just buying time and saving her own neck from being hung. The whole gang will be back in town.

Mind-blowing fact of the day:

Maggie Smith is a famous actress known for her role as Professor Mcgonagall from Harry Potter, among many others:

She also has a famous son who is an actor...... Toby Stephens:

Bonus fun fact:

The chick playing the handmaiden who sold out Woodes Rogers and his fleet to the Spanish is the wife of Toby Stephens' (Flint).

That's pretty cool about his mom being Maggie Smith, I did not know that.

Are you talking about the woman who kept creeping around the British ship and listening to conversations behind closed doors?

Yessir.

Sorry, are you not caught up yet? She played a pretty big role in the last couple of episodes.

John Silver though.....

Defresne had it coming. Plus, they should have never tried to recast him anyway. :)

I have to admit, the guy playing the governor is doing a heck of a job. Part of me wants to like him and the other part knows he's doomed.

I have mixed feelings about Vane's exit. At first I felt like him being hung simply wasn't befitting of his character in the show. I felt like someone like him should go out fighting. Then I start to think about that option and I found myself wondering who could they have chosen out of the entire cast to take out Vane single-handedly and still have the audience believe they were capable of doing it? Only two people came to mind and neither of them would have ever done it and that is Flint or Blackbeard. So I guess this was going to be one of the very few ways Vane not only felt like he could a difference going out but will actually make a difference.

It was definitely a character development moment. Vane has now evolved from the self-centered, stone cold pirate, to a man that was willing to sacrifice everything (his residence at Nassau, his relationship with Blackbeard, even his life) for the good of what he believes in, which is a free Nassau.

One thing I hate about period pieces is that with this particular story we know that Nassau was in fact owned by the UK up until 1973 when it was granted independence.

Yeah but in real life Charles Vane was also hanged in Jamaica after being overthrown from his own ship by Jack Rackham lol. I'd say we're going to see a different overall story in this show. It's best just to treat is as fantasy like Game of Thrones.

Another terrific finale.

Good to see Blackbeard will be back next season, and I was very surprised they are taking Woodes Rogers into another season with him still running Nassau.
