Filler episode, small things happened rather than large ones. Flint needs to come back from crazy town. Odd really, they force that gay scene on us only to turn around and have Flint going crazy over Miranda's death, a woman he couldn't have possibly loved.
I am thoroughly enjoying this season, but I feel like for the first time, Flint and his crew's story is the weak link here. A mutiny/war is happening in Nassau and we keep having to watch Flint's battered crew find a new, clever way to survive on their own.
We all know they're going to end up back at Nassau, let's speed that process up.
Bonus fun fact:
The chick playing the handmaiden who sold out Woodes Rogers and his fleet to the Spanish is the wife of Toby Stephens' (Flint).
That's pretty cool about his mom being Maggie Smith, I did not know that.
Are you talking about the woman who kept creeping around the British ship and listening to conversations behind closed doors?
I have mixed feelings about Vane's exit. At first I felt like him being hung simply wasn't befitting of his character in the show. I felt like someone like him should go out fighting. Then I start to think about that option and I found myself wondering who could they have chosen out of the entire cast to take out Vane single-handedly and still have the audience believe they were capable of doing it? Only two people came to mind and neither of them would have ever done it and that is Flint or Blackbeard. So I guess this was going to be one of the very few ways Vane not only felt like he could a difference going out but will actually make a difference.
It was definitely a character development moment. Vane has now evolved from the self-centered, stone cold pirate, to a man that was willing to sacrifice everything (his residence at Nassau, his relationship with Blackbeard, even his life) for the good of what he believes in, which is a free Nassau.
One thing I hate about period pieces is that with this particular story we know that Nassau was in fact owned by the UK up until 1973 when it was granted independence.
