Blade Tidwell starting today vs. Florida

Answer: That was last year.

This year, he started on the shelf for 1/2 the season. Massive difference than being injured in-season and coming off IR. It's not a shot at Blade at all! He is a stud, and I am happy to be his agent if he needs one. But he is still building to mid-season form. Today will be a great day to get some innings in.

So, in closing, not contradictory at all.

Of course it is. If Blade pitches well the next 2 weeks, you “don’t want what to mess with what’s working” in that case, either. He lost his starting job to injury because others came in and pitched well. If Blade is pitching well in CD’s place, it’s the exact same thing.

Blade has started and won games in Hoover, the Regional, Super Regional, and Omaha. I don’t care if it was last year…no one else on this team has that experience.

I’ll trust CFA to manage the pitching staff. We’re at least a week away from a decision.

Exactly. We all assumed going into the season that Blade would step back into the rotation, but they were all pitching too well to bump any of them out. If Blade now steps in and let’s say he goes 5-6 hitless innings tonight and the same thing next week, nobody is going to excited about bumping him out of the rotation. Big “if,” of course, but just have to let it play out. These guys will all have a role to play.

The question always is: What (who) gives us a better chance of winning? Staff must decide that, obviously, but that is the yardstick they use to make the decision.

And it isn't just a matter of Blade pitching well. To bump Dolly, he would have to pitch very well AND give us 6 innings at least, because that's what a healthy Dolly gives us almost every time out, or more. I'm usually one to think that a starting player should get their position back after returning from injury, but that always presumes the second stringer is less of a player. Not necessarily true here. And that's saying something, as good as Blade and Dolly are.

I also think it might actually be a moot point: With Dolly's injury and Burns 'struggles' (relative term), we have the necessary indications to show us that we will need all four of these pitchers down the stretch. I'm guessing they all get plenty of innings one way or another.

I’m riding and dying with Blade. Give him a couple more weeks to stretch out those innings and we will have one of the scariest and most unstoppable starting pitching staffs in recent memory.

I really don’t know how it will be handled when Dollander is back. None of us do. But the good thing is, there’s no wrong answer. No matter what happens, Tennessee has 4 guys who are not only weekend starter good, but they’re Friday night ace starter good. Which means we’ll have 3 aces starting, plus another ace in the bullpen for long relief if needed, who is also a 4th ace starter when the postseason rolls around, just in case we have to play 4 games in 4 or 5 days.

That’s not even counting Sechrist, who has been an outstanding weekend starter and gives us a lefty option if we’d like, or Sewell, who can also start and give you 5+ innings (and has done so in big games like Florida in Hoover last year).

Imagine if Halvorsen were healthy. 😳

Blade did exactly what he needed to do yesterday, dominant for 4+ innings and Camden came in and did what he needed to do and ate the innings up and finished it off so we have a very well rested bullpen for today's game with the chance of a sweep.

Blade looked smooth and in control yesterday and reached 99 on the gun from what I saw.

It's a super nice problem to have with too many arms instead of too few.
