Blame this loss on Bruce Pearl.

Yeah, the one thing Pearl was known for was unbelievable defense, especially half-court defense. Since Pearl lost to this team last year with Harris and Hopson at home, you have every reason to believe he would have won last night, especially due to his great defense. Memphis, would have trouble scoring with Pearl and coach and that would have been an easy win, due to the great defense. Not sure which Pearl coached games you watched?

The ones in which Tennessee went to 6 straight NCAA tournament appearances, one Elite 8, three sweet 16s, one SEC title. (Pearl sucks!)

Of course you are right again. Defense carried the program while Pearl was coach. I really would have liked some offense, but only defense was stressed during the Pearl tenure. With all the great defense, it's somewhat shocking we didn't make several final 4s.

I miss Bruce.

I do too! One hell of a coach. I just do not understand the animosity towards him. Does not make sense for someone who is a proven winner. I am beginning to believe that a lot of people who post here are not Tennessee fans.

I am shocked we didn't as well.

or they care more about the Univ and its image than they do about one person

If you can't understand after last season and his being banned from coaching any where by the NCAA that some fans are no longer great supporters of Pearl, I'm not sure anything would help you understand.

Guess it is best for some fans like you to really continue to live in La La land rather than accept reality. Too bad Pearl has the show cause and you can't continue to follow him with some other team. However, that clearly doesn't stop your hero worship of the man.

I am just stating that he is a great coach. I did not say he was a great man. He let us down. It is time to move on. I just do not understand the animosity toward him. If he coaches again he will win again and win big.

Blaming the schedule is for losers. I'm pretty sure Duke, were they playing our schedule, would not have given up 89 points. This team is giving up way too many points.

I agree with you that it is time to move on. It is unfortunate that so many are unable to do that. However, great coaches don't bring embarrassment to their programs and get banned from coaching by the NCAA. I thought Pearl did a good job prior to his unethical conduct. You can't separate his character flaws from the man to the coach. He is likely never to coach again at the major college level.

That is sad, but probably true. Let's just hope Martin can keep up the good work. I like the young guys we have. The big thing is to see improvement as the season goes along. That will make me feel a lot better. If Martin wins people will forget about Pearl. Me included.

I agree and I'm glad you aren't one of the posters who bash Martin before we have any evidence that he can't do the job.

Our roster would have consisted of 7-8 players with two non-qualifying recruits. After last year's incredible run, how could we not make the NCAAT?

The Pearlophiles have surpassed the Fulmerites to become the most idiotic faction of this fanbase. That's quite an accomplishment.

I think their belief that Pearl will come riding in on a white horse to save the program in 2014 tips the scale in the Pearlophiles' favor.

You can call me a Pearlophile or any other name. Pearl is a is a great basketball coach. His results speak for themselves. Why don't you explain to me why he isn't a good coach, instead of calling people names like a six year old. And don't give me that nonsense about he lied. We all know he lied. Does it make Rick Pitino a bad coach because he cheated on his wife in a restaurant, got her pregnant and asked his buddy to cover it up. He is still a good basketball coach as well. It is like the work we do every day. Some guys personnal life and short comings are obvious. That does not mean they are not good at their job.

I think you probably need to re-look at the Pearl saga. His actions resulted in his being fired from his job, put the basketball program in danger of sanctions from the NCAA, and cause him to be banned from his profession for 3 years. I really think that possibly could reflect on his job performance, not just on personal life issues. Great coaches don't end up in that situation---bottom line.

I don't know how you can say that. The difference is that most of these other coaches have assistants in place to throw under the bus. What about Maggette in the Duke investagation, eight years now and it has been swept under the rug. Do you really think that the 2000 text messages and phone calls to and from the sports agent who was paying the kid were all phoned, sent or received by somebody else since it was his personal cell
phone. What about Cal and the two programs he left in flames. I think you have spent too much time on PM with a certain poster. (Is sociopathic behavior contagious):)

That is true. I guess the same could be said about Tressel. I am just saying that when it comes to recruiting and coaching, he is a outstanding coach.
