blockbusters you've missed

I've never watched any Harry potter. Just didn't think I'd like them.

I love them. Some people do some people don't. I felt pretty connected to them though with all of the characters going on for so long.

As far as my block busters. I haven't seen a single star wars film all the way through. I just can't do it for some reason. Couldn't get into the avengers either even though I had multiple people telling me to go see it.

I don't have a ton of time to watch movies the past few years.

I only saw half of the first Hobbit movie and missed the other 2.

Recent movies I wanted to see haven't: Mad Max Fury Road, Interstellar, Jurassic World.

Cult Classics I've never seen but wanted to: the Usual Suspects and Momento.

Usual Suspects? Seriously? The ending has to have been spoiled by now.

Shawshank Redemption

Despite how beloved it is today, The Shawshank Redemption was never a blockbuster and it bombed at the box office and barely made back its $25 million production budget only grossing a little over $28 Million Domestically and didn't even crack the top 50 grossing films of 1994.

The Hobbit trilogy is a major disappointment if you are a fan of the LOTR trilogy and understand what makes those movies great

I disagree it's a "major disappointment". I'm a fan of LOTR and The Hobbit trilogy isn't nearly as good but the source material isn't as good as the LOTR books either. I enjoyed them enough for what they were.

Totally disagree. The book The Hobbit is every bit as good as LOTR, IMO. The problem wasn't the source material, the problem was stretching it into 500 minutes of movie when it should have been 240 minutes.

I agree with the Hobbit being stretched out. But I disagree with what you said earlier about ROTK being too long. It wasn't too long, it was even better on the extended version with 45 minutes more story to work with. I love LOTRs, not so much the Hobbit. It was cool to see a lot of things visualized from the Hobiyt, and tidbits like the battle between the Dwarves and Orcs below the entrance to Moria when Thorin Oakenshield earned his name. Smaug was awesome.

This so much. 2 movies would have been enough considering it was just 1 book being potrayed. I thought the first 2 were incredible and the last they just ran out of steam from all the stretching of the material they had to work with.

The actual written story is awesome, but I can't remember which book it is in. Was it the appendices at the end of ROTK, or in the Silmarillion? There is a goldmine of potential awesome movies in there. The Silmarillion and Unfinished tales. Would love to see Gondolin and Nargothrond and Valinor. People that criticize Tolkein for not being tragic enough, should read the story of Turin Turambar. The whole history of Middle Earth is one long story of loss, and faith in light/good in the face of overwhelming darkness/evil.
