1 Sentence Summary: I have three children, I’m in school at night and my Bluetick needs a new home.

Volnation,

While I never thought I’d be writing this it only seems fitting to come to you to first in what is naturally a difficult decision. I need help finding a new home for my 3 y.o. female Blue Tick Coonhound. My wife and I had the pick of the litter just three years ago and we brought our dog, Pearl, home just weeks before we welcomed our first child into the world. We knew we were crazy to get a dog that close to having a child but we couldn't pass up the opportunity; The opportunity to own a Blue Tick in the blood line of my most beloved team s mascot, Smokey IX. You see when my wife and I were looking for dogs we chose a Bluetick as one of the favorite breeds. As luck would have it the breeder of Smokey IX lives about ten miles from me, how I found that out is for another day, and he decided to come out of “breeding retirement” to help my dream of owning a Bluetick in the bloodline of Smokey come true.

The reason I feel compelled to find her a new home is that I haven’t been, nor will be able, to provide her the environment I had hoped. I’m in school at night and we’re now expecting our third child. In addition to not having any free time to get my dog exercise, our family has never had the time to bond with her. Bringing home a baby shortly after getting Pearl has placed her and her needs on the back burner, and I don’t think that is fair to her.

Our dog has been nothing but sweet to my children (3 and 2), she loves playing fetch with a tennis ball and enjoys chasing cats and squirrels. She is friendly with other dogs at the dog park and she loves to go for a run. I mean loves it. As with any Bluetick I’ve ever met she will talk (howl) if she see’s something she either can’t get to (i.e. cat outside window) or when she’s fulfilling her duties as a guard dog (i.e. she will let you Know when someone is approaching the house. ). She has NOT been neutered as we had contemplated breeding her.

Please know this is not a decision I make lightly, nor does this mean she’s been mistreated in any manner. She simply doesn't get the exercise, attention or affection she needs.

Please let me know if you or someone you know would be interested in owning a sweet 3 year old Bluetick located in Charleston, SC, who just happens to be in Smokey’s Bloodline.

Please email me at jmessal@gmail.com

What a pretty dog.

How is her energy level? Do you keep her indoors during the day - if so is she crated or can you leave her to roam without tearing things up?

IMHO. If the OP doesn't feel he can give the love and care that his dog wants and above all, needs, then trying to find someone that can and is willing, is the right thing to do. No need in being selfish.

Absolutely.

Is there an update? I just saw this and may have a taker. One of my best friends is a UT grad and lives in Mt. Pleasant. Also, my parents had to put both of their dogs down last year. One 2 weeks before Christmas. They may be interested as well, but they live in E. TN.

Reaching out to this community was probably hard enough on the OP, then you get asshat grilling him, too.

I felt compassion and sorrow in the OP, and I know it would take more than I could bear to give up one of my dogs, so hat's off for being strong enough to put this out there.

Is there an update? I've got a few friends that may be interested.

My post in response to Ducreux was deleted. I thought it was pretty tame, but okay. Ducreux, your judgmental attitude towards this situation is unnecessary and the OP is doing what's in the best interest of the dog. He could have just taken the dog to the pound and wiped his hands clean, but he's doing the moral and right thing by trying to find it a loving home.

I agree with all of that.

Several posts from various people have been deleted. You're right, your post was tame. We're just trying to redirect the conversation to keep the thread on point and hopefully help out the OP. :hi:

The kindness of some on VN is the ying to the dumbassery yang of others.

Hope all works out with the dog and he can find a home. You know he feels the tension or lack of personal touch and that's sad to me.

I'm glad to inform those interested that a VN member and I will be meeting up this Sunday. After speaking with him, I feel he and his family (and 10acres), are a great fit for Pearl. I take great comfort in knowing that Pearl will be in a loving Volunteer home in the heart of Bulldog country. :)

I've never given up on something or someone in my life. So in a lot of ways giving Pearl up is thuroughly disappointing. For all intensive purposes she is my dream dog. However, on the opposite side of the coin it has taken a lot courage to accept what needed to be done.

I appreciate the support and kind words from my VN family. I especially appreciate those that have reached out to help Pearl.

That's great, man. You are a solid guy to put her needs before your own emotions/desires. I hope Pearl finds a happy home with our VN brother. Keep us posted!
