Bo Jackson >> easily the most overrated athlete

He averaged 8.8 yards per carry as a running back, still has the fastest timed 40 yard dash in NFL combine history, plus he hit over 100 home runs in the MLB, including over 30 in a season. He also threw a ball from the warning track to home plate (on the fly might I add) to throw out the speedy Harold Reynolds. Don't forget his infamous wall run and that he was an allstar in both sports. But if you still need convincing here you go.

He averaged 5.4 YPC in his 4 year career. Only 2 RB beat that all of last year. Same for 2010 and 2011.

He was great at football. He was about as good as Greg Vaughn at baseball. But at least that puts him ahead of Deion Sanders.
I think he was more like Ron Gant with a canon arm, but its tough to say because Bo just happened so fast. He was probably only at the top of his game for 3 years or so.

4 years, then the Bengals blew out his hip

Bo treated football as an off season hobby like other players played golf or went fishing. He was a pro bowl rb. think about that for a moment.

Eh, "overrated" anything is actually a pretty difficult thing to define well. In theory you can overrate anybody if you jump the shark enough in the praise dept. Still, as a matter of physical ability I genuinely don't know how it's possible to say he wasn't something special.

There wasn't much to begin with but you lost all credibility with the Tyson thread.

A recent article I read stated that we think Bo is the greatest cause he stood out in 2 sports both in college and in the pros, but it pointed out that Jackie Robinson was a standout in 4 sports in college, and was a much better baseball player, especially with the glove. In a different era Jackie may have tried to play multiple pro sports.

Nonetheless, he played in the NFL and MLB. I don't find much reason to argue such a guy is overrated as an athlete.

Jackson was an all world track star when he first showed up at Auburn. Chose baseball and football because of the money.

Was he that good at track? I found something that said he won the state decathalon without even competing in the mile run, but his 100m was only 10.39. That seems a little slow for all-world in the 80s, but maybe I'm wrong.

Jackie Robinson's worst sport at UCLA was baseball. That's where the money was, so he went with baseball, but good lord can you imagine how good he was at the other sports?

He qualified for the 100m nationals his first two years at Auby. Ran a hand timed 4.12 40 at the combine when he went.

Yeah, I knew about the 40 time. Can't go wrong with either guy. That's for sure. I do find it odd that Jackie rarely makes his way into this conversation.
