Bob Huggins in some hot water

Not sure where you get your information from but you are incorrect. Here is one quote from an article on the subject, which is the same information provided by several other sources. “During an appearance on the Bill Cunningham Show on Newsradio 700 WLW, Huggins was asked about his former in-city rivalry with Xavier during his time as the Cincinnati coach from 1989 to 2005.”
Not sure why Huggins even did the interview - what was there to gain by answering questions from that long ago ?

Well, a Light conversation that was between Old Friends; too bad somebody had the tape rolling. IF the tape was rolling at certain moments for All of us, what kind of crap would we be in? The guys were joking amongst themselves, and those two were seemingly egging Huggins on. Hugs should have just said, "Listen to the tape; it was a Joke." Then let the chips fall. Today's politically correct world. I'm just so tired of it all. Of course Huggins is gone, he has lost it anyways. Karma, please pay the leaker a visit; soon.

It was on the radio so there was no leaker, but you’re right that is was a conversation between old friends.

Most hilarious thing about this thread is all the sanctimonious clowns on here ripping the “homophobic slur” as if they‘ve never said “queer”, ”homo”, “gayford“, or “***” In conversations before. Right or wrong, truth is 15 years ago Huggy’s comment wouldn’t even be worthy of news, especially considering he was talking i.e. a cross town rival and threw in Xavier being a Catholic school along what everyone has their panties in a wad about.

As others have suggested in the thread, I think Huggy Bear is firmly in "I don't care" mode. Which is where he's kind of been his whole career.

He'll be 70 at the start of basketball season, has 900+ wins, and will go down as probably the best coach at his alma mater (it's either him or some guy named Gale Catlett). He probably doesn't even care if they let him go at this point.

Huggins did make a Final Four there in 2010 ... I'm not sure that I would say he was a better coach than John Beilein, though.

Yep, But I don't read the Quote comments on my posts unless they also liked mine. I have a quote for them. If they don't matter, it don't matter. I don't know why people can't make their OWN statements without trying to Degrade others'. After all, aren't they up to their eyeballs in Diversity?? Welp, there it is.

Whatever someone might feel about the topic in their personal lives,he said it several times on a radio show. That's never good PR... It doesn't seem to matter though because West Virginia is coming off as desperate by keeping him. That's their choice. I don't see him lasting much longer there with his inconsistent recent record.

This has zero to do with political correctness. The highest paid public employee in the state of West Virginia used a homophobic slur during a radio interview. This wasn’t two old friends shooting the breeze, which by the way, still wouldn’t have excused the language that Huggins used.

It's funny how grown men are considered to have irrational fear of gays if they say a slang word. I bet you were fun to be in the boys locker room, getting all offended when somebody used a gay joke. Did you accuse them of having an irrational fear?

First of all, the term he used is not "slang," it's a slur. Do you understand the difference? Or do you think all offensive terms are just "slang"?

Second, being gay and having played organized sports until I went to college, I can tell you that hearing sh*t like this growing up—in the locker room and elsewhere—absolutely made me terrified to be myself. I came out at 25 and probably would've done so much sooner if I didn't think a lot of people would hate/reject me for it. But, I don't think you probably spend much time imagining what it'd be like to walk a mile in somebody else's shoes.

All this hullabaloo over nothing. Hell, insulting or not, it's just words and free speech...even crass insults... still exists in my book. Folks need to grow up, get a thick skin and stop with the "offended" BS. As the old saying goes....sticks and stones.

I don’t understand your “free speech” argument. Is Huggins being arrested or charged with a crime? Free speech doesn’t protect you from punishment from your employer when you go on radio and use a homophobic slur.

I just don’t see the need to use the word or make jokes that can offend a group of people. It’s immature to throw around a word like that.

Oh, I see. Free speech only applies to what's socially acceptable or what society or an employer deems appropriate? Or perhaps what's appoved of on a message board? If Huggins had expanded on his thought instead of using a "slur" by saying that homosexuality is an abomination before God or that it's wrong to try and normalize homosexual behavior or transvestitism by pushing it and celebrating it and that it goes against the natural order of things, would that have been more "acceptable"? Do you not see the very thin line we're dealing with here? You either have a bill or rights or you don't. Too many have died to defend this country and our freedoms...several in my own family. No, we do have a constitution. We do have a bill of rights. We do have a first amendment. We do have the right to agree to disagree. Huggins might have been locker room crude, but I'll support his right to say what he said. To do otherwise puts this country on a very slippery slope.....or should I say a more slippery slope than it's already on?

Have we become so fragile and pathetic that a word or joke can offend a group of people? Rhetorical.

i it should be joked about and made fun of, if we can make fun of football teams then we should be able to make jokes of other lifestyle choices
