Why isn’t Wilkerson the man…I know why, but gosh dang you should know more about UT baseball than a stat sheet at your fingertips and a few pregame interviews. He hang Helton out to dry and Todd is a rookie at broadcasting.
Yes. Bob kept asking Todd question after leading question, trying to get him to tell some fun baseball stories or add color to the broadcast with his wealth of baseball experience and insight. Helton answered as if he was under cross examination - as brief as possible. Like he was bored or had stagefright. So Bob kept yapping away cause he wasn't getting any help from Todd, exhausting all his good questions and left with only stupid ones. As a result of the presentation imbalance, Bob came across to me as a motormouth, but I understood he felt he had to compensate. All in all, an embarrassing performance by both of them, but especially Helton.
Helton seemed totally disinterested in being there.
Made it tough for Kesling and it was obvious they haven’t worked together previously. Assume it takes some practice to gain some rapport but I personally didn’t think it was horrible.Yeah, and that caused a lot of the problem fans were having with Bob. Burke always volunteers information and stories for color commentator. Getting Todd to talk was like pulling teeth, and Bob came off as doing all the talking and appearing to ask a lot of stupid questions. But if your partner is a plank of wood, what are you supposed to do? Ignore him?
I listen to Vol Network radio for every UT sporting event that I attend or watch on TV (or just listen to if watching not an option). I have not listened to Kesling on any of these tv games because I'm on radio. I prefer to listen to announcers that are "on my side." This habit goes back to as long as I've had football season tickets (early 1990's). John Ward could def paint a picture and his tag lines in basketball ("String Music," "Bottom") & football (Give him 6! & "Touchdown Tennessee") feel iconic to me. I think Wilkerson does a pretty good job in baseball - when he messes up he quickly corrects. I think Kesling is fairly decent at basketball - "paints a picture" decently & his lack of enthusiasm is countered by Bert. Football.... he's too impartial for me - same raised voice for big plays whether it's UT or are opponent. I wish we'd hire someone else just for football. Not sure who.. I'd love Mike Keith but that ship sailed unfortunately.I always listen to the radio broadcast anyway for baseball. Unless the game is on a “cable” channel and not streaming only the radio is about two pitches ahead. I think Wilkerson and Vince do a good job for the most part.
Very neat. Great pic. Was that in MVP lounge?Met him tonight, for the 2nd or 3rd time. Super nice guy, bleeds orange. I have no real hate for him. He’s just boring calling football. Better at basketball. Best at baseball (on TV, radio is Wilkerson, no contest). Anyway, cool moment tonight. I asked him, “What we’re you thinking you couldn’t say on TV that night that Vitello bumped the ump?” His reply, “Honestly, I thought, what the hell did you do that for?” Said in the moment he wishes he hadn’t done it, but in retrospect, so glad he did because it lit a bigger fire under our team that we already that we already knew was burning, but is now raging.
He’s a good guy.
