Bob Stoops' Tennessee promotion will be at odds with his SEC analysis

Like some of the bottom comments that talk about how UT is a young team on the rise. 'Bout damn time! Hopefully after Saturday we'll be deemed "RISEN"

Tennessee has 60 minutes to remind Stoops of what SEC football is/was & always will be! Lets carry the fight for the whole DAWGGONE 60.

They're clearly the better team according to the media. But all I'm going to say is OU better pack a lunch come Saturday.

I seen that as well, and then I scrolled a bit further and Tracy in Oklahoma stated how bad we are and that Pumping up the Tennessee program will not change the outcome of the game... an arse whooping put on us.... Boy, I sure would like to win this one:clapping:

They have the upper hand and he knows it. So does everyone else. He's just playing the media. I don't blame him.

Sounds like the Berry fellow who wrote the article doesn't seem to think much of our chances. That's it let's stay home.

No lose situation for the Vols; no win situation for Stoop Dog!

It's just words and paper. Opinions don't count. That's why they play the game. I'm pretty sure both teams will be pumped . Stoops knows he can't let his team look ahead.

Pisses me off to read articles like that. As well as the comments. Someone get this on the teams bulletin board.

Oklahoma smoked Alabama last year in a bowl game. Nobody is giving us any chance in winning. Just remember this. Butch is getting us back to being on top of the SEC. You can tell this by the players he is bringing in here. And Oklahoma will be in Knoxville soon to play UT. The worst we will be against Oklahoma is 1-1. We will beat them in Knoxville.

Well, he did see a little w/Alabummer, remember.
I definitely agree with "fighting for 60"!

GO VOLS!

USA Today has Oklahoma 7th, Tennessee 42nd. I think the advantage should go to the Sooners. All I hope for is improvement from the last game and hopefully no season ending injuries. Go Orange!

Stoops' comments are always responses to questions - he's not going out of his way to make a point. Baby bro is HC at Kentucky, so he's not, IMO, doing this for fun. He's as honest as the come, for better or worse. I do know, unequivocally, there is a high respect amongst the fans, and I hope the coaches and team, as to what Tennessee is historically.

Maybe we're splitting hairs, but I don't think he is calling out individual programs, simply stating that from top to bottom, the SEC isn't full of world-beaters. No argument from me on who is the best conference. However, I do think that if Tenn moved to the Big 12, or Oklahoma moved to the SEC, by and large they would have any measurable difference in their annual records on average. That is what I believe his larger point is. Temple destroys Vandy, no mention. Iowa State loses to a FCS powerhouse (troubling, yes) and Finebaum is all over it. There is a double-standard and a bit of "propaganda" - hands up, don't shoot, as to what the rest of the country feels and sees. Look at A&M and Mizzou... average at best in the Big 12 and have been doing just fine in the SEC.

Not trying to start a flame throwing contest, I just feel Stoops' comments are being taken out of context for off-season debates. Let's just play some football now!

SEC team or not, I'm worried. Yes, we're 88-5 in Stoops' time, but we've lost 3 since 2011 to decent K-State and Notre Dame teams, and then a fluke in Tech to break our 6 year home winning streak. Tennessee has the athletes, and is on the rise. OU doesn't bring their A-game, they'll get beat. We had some injury scares last week, but I believe we'll be mostly healthy. That 21-point spread scares the hell out of me. Boomer.

Classy post but I'll disagree on a couple of your points. Vandy has been hammered by the media for being terrible. Mizz had a 5-7 season first year in the SEC and then had a great year last year.

Although Temple is a very bad team they're still not FCS. Texas A&M is a totally different team and program than they were in the Big 12. Not trying to say that coming to the SEC has made them better, but Sumlin is amazing.

They've recruited like an elite team which they didn't do while in the Big 12. They've upgraded most of their facilities. And as I said earlier they upgraded their coaching staff.

theres a lot of fans who would welcome being in the sec or pac. there arent any teams left to make the big12 what it was before neb left. we're left circling the bowl so to speak.
