Bobby Maze wins championship and MVP

Out of curiousity, in your opinion, what made maze significantly more of a "true" pg than golden?

The fact that he made it to a great eight.....if he played on a bad team people would be complaining about him.....I love bobby maze.....I think trae is a fine pg.

just my opinion. everyone is entitled. i'll move on. guess we'll see who has a longer pro career.

That's fine, but there's not one stay that says maze was a better shooter. That was actually probably his biggest weakness.

I'd go on a stretch and say if he had Goldens shooting he probably would've got an invite in the league.

This is probably the best argument, that he led them to an elite 8.

One huge difference, maze always gave it all and put it all out there on both ends. Same couldn't be said for golden last year.

I like both of them as players.....I was saying that is what helps create most peoples perceptions.

Maze could run the offense much better than what I've seen Trae do. He didn't make stupid bone heading mistakes or turnovers that cost us the game within the last minute of the game. Defensively, I think both are a wash. Maze had the same weakness as Trae, couldn't stay in front of the small fast pg. They would blow by him like they do Trae.

i agree, wholeheartly. cj was a true "diamond in the rough ". best player buzz signed, by a mile. i think bobby was very close to being a true point.

I think some would think that the best player Buzz signed would probably.... oh what was his name .... all time 3pt shooter in the SEC .... could it be CHRIS LOFTON. Seriously.

Both Trae and Bobby have good attributes. They also have/had major issues to correct. Trae's relate to really only having one season as a PG. He is a better shooter and can use his off hand much better than Bobby did when he was on the team. Don't know about now. Bobby drove right over 90% of the time because he was not good with his left hand. Just like JP always driving left. Bobby was the better passer because he was a true PG when he came here. Bobby was the better leader, but Trae still has time to make it his team. Trae has much better endurance and strength than Bobby did. Bobby gave it 100% all the time on both O and D, and would get totally gassed at 20-25 minutes per game. Trae goes 30+ every game but takes plays off on D frequently.

I like them both a lot and wish them both the best. I think Trae's upside is higher with 3 years under Coach Zo.

Trae's upside should be higher since he has 2 more years here than Maze. Both have had the same amount of time playing at UT. I expect Trae to be a better player by the end of his Senior year, but Maze's incredible run his Senior year will be hard to beat. He became a great leader and had a refuse to lose attitude that carried over to every player (except Hopson) on that team.

One plays in the league.

One Doesn't.

What you do at college doesn't mean anything if you can't even get into the league.

As a player, Watson is better than Lofton. And Lofton is probably my favorite Basketvol all time.

Well you just saved me a whole bunch of time not having to watch UT basketball since it doesn't mean nothing.

So, I guess since 29 players have played in the NBA from UT, Lofton doesn't get to start the list of all time best players until around 30th best? Some of the players, by your philosophy would be Vencent Yarbrough, Dyron Nix, Steve Hamer, Marcus Haislip? Seriously.

CJ had one really great year and 3 good years at UT. Lofton had a once in a lifetime career.

CJ's highest award was 2nd team All SEC.
Lofton was 3rd team All American his freshman year
2nd team All American his Sophmore and Junior year
1st team All American his Freshman Year.

Lofton led the conference in scoring in 2006-07, SEC player of the Year, Most career 3pts in SEC history.

Career stats: CJ = 12 ppg, 39.5% 3pt%, 77.7 FT% 4.8 ass
Lofton = 16.6 ppg, 42.2 3pt%, 84.2 FT%

Lofton carried a team on his back, brought TN basketball back from the dead, was the number 1 team in the country for a brief period.

Both went undrafted.

Not even close to comparison.

Lofton never had a chance to play in the NBA. Being a gifted shooter means little if that's all you can do. Watson its a much better overall player, and it's not even close.

I don't understand how people were so quick to write off Hopson going to the league, but they don't understand why Lofton never had a chance.

The reply was that CJ was the best player that Buzz recruited. CJ was not a better player in college than 4 time All American Chris Lofton. CJ had the quickness, ball handling skills, and developed a better shot after he left UT. He continued to work and develop his game. Lofton has quickness and size limitations to play in the NBA, but there is no way that the time both of them were at UT anyone can think that CJ was a better player than Lofton.

My bad. Totally misread everything.
