As an alum ... I think this is a huge get for WKU. As much as it stings to see Taggart leave, the Petrino hiring eclipses that event fully.

How long will he be at WKU? Ethics nightmare?

Listen, I made as much fun of screw up as much of the next guy. However, if he is truly trying to change his image as he relayed in the press conference today, by all means, LET HIM START IT AT WKU.

He wants to coach at a major college program again. His image will have to be redeveloped before that can take place.

WKU signed him to a 2 yr deal, 800k per year. Which is pretty cheap. Here is the good stuff .... He has a 1.2 million buyout if he leaves before the contract period ends ... Which mathematically means that WKU comes out on top if Petrino decides to leave.

Petrino will put bodies in the stadium because WKU will probably never see this again. Taggart started the uptick in attendance and this hire will prove valuable to the University financially and through overall fan and community support.

Count this alumni on board. As Hilltopper said this eases all pain of losing Willie T. It blows my mind that we have probably one of the top 5 coaches in all of CFB in BG, KY. I still can't wrap my head around it. For the first time ever I'm more excited about another's team upcoming season than I am UT's. Can't wait for Aug 31st, to wipe the floor with UK two years in a row. They already refuse to play us in bball and probably will football now too.

As an Alumni I am on board, because it gives WKU the opportunity to do something it has never done, and may never do again, albeit briefly before Petrino exits in a few years for a better job once his reputation is back up to par. It makes me happy to see the attendance numbers jump like they did this season, and will do next season.

Petrino's system and schemes will result in automatic improvements, no doubt. But I don't think everyone should rush into grand illusions about what this will be. With the hire that UK has made, in 2 years I don't think WKU will be that competitive. As good as Petrino is, there is still a ceiling on the level of player that he can attract to WKU. Win the conference? Yes. BCS competitive? On a given day, maybe, long term no.

In the end it will be a great move for WKU, which is what is important.

There's people at WKU that actually don't like the hire. Lmao. They feel he's bad for the university. He's probably one of the best things to EVER happen at WKU for their sports recognition. He'll win and generate a ton of $$ via ticket sales, booster donations, media coverage, recruits, etc. I don't get it. Who do they think they are bama or something?

Bible Belt. This town has a rather large group of people who take the moral high ground and throw the first stones.

There are also the purists and traditionalists who believe the universities reputation to be more important than any sport success. They don't understand (or refuse to acknowledge) however that the football revenue pays for most of the athletic budget.

One has to remember that even though the university is growing leaps and bounds, the city of Bowling Green is still only around 70,000 population. Still a small town by many standards.

81-66 last year after being up by 30.

Did y'all choose to play that game? Last time we came to Rupp we walked out with a win. Be glad we met in the tourney or else UK would still be behind 3-2 in the series.

Wouldn't brag too much about beating a team with a losing record from the Sun Belt. And considering who gave you a degree I'd say your team lost, same as mine.

I can see this mentality going out the window with wins. McDonald was run out of town because of his off-court, private escapades; losing gave them the ammunition they needed.

Harper's personal life may well be squeaky clean, but his NCAA issues at KW are no secret but he wins and he's a local boy so he gets a longer leash. Win 9-10 games next year with another bowl and CBP will be loved and forgave and forgot.

Oh, I agree. Winning cures everything, especially in a town where the university is the lifeblood of the local economy.

McDonald was WKU's Gillispie. I will never forget the night at Olde Stone golf club after the celebrity Pro-Am a few years back. Not sure who was worse, John Daly driving a golf cart through the sand trap at 2:00am then pissing off the tee-box, or McDonald eye raping and groping the hell out of a female college student serving drinks. I watched him stumble down the stairs into the car, then seen his hungover ass the next morning at Cracker Barrel.

On another note, that was quite a fun night.

As a Vol fan let me explain something. When you have a tiny college in Bowling Green and then you get blockbuster hire, the purists need to get real! Everyone know what a top coach does for you. In Ktown we fully know! Maybe they shouldn't have a football team and see how that works for ya. And I know it isn't you, but all your buds over in wkuland.

That dude loved Cracker Barrel haha. I saw him one morning after church with his wife and daughter and then the next time he was out with a college aged girl. Couldn't believe how little shame he had going out in public with her after all the "rumors" around town. Guy was a first class loser.

Yeah, he was a little too fond of the stinky pinky.

Forget cheating on his wife. That’s between him, his wife and his God. The fact he hired his mistress (a former Arkansas volleyball player) at Arkansas, gave her $20,000 and put her on the university payroll exposed a public university to potential sexual harassment lawsuits.

He was considered so “hot” (in a bad way) that no major program would hire him. So he took a job in the Sun Belt. Welcome to humility.

In committing his egregious violation of employment law (and common sense), he also lied to his superiors about circumstances surrounding the motorcycle accident that led to his firing, admitting to his “inappropriate relationship” with Jessica Dorrell only after she was referenced in the police report (two days later).

He quit on the Falcons in the middle of the season, as cowardly an act as a coach can commit. He didn’t tell players. He left a note in their locker. The day after telling owner Arthur Blank he was committed to the team — prompting Blank to give two national TV interviews on the topic and look foolish — Petrino was in Fayetteville at a midnight news conference doing Pig Sooey chants.

While at Louisville, Petrino secretly met with Auburn representatives in late 2003, even with the season still going and Auburn having a coach (Tommy Tuberville — who, by the way, gave Petrino a job in 2002. There’s your loyalty.). He also interviewed with LSU in 2004 just five days after signing a contract extension, and bolted for the Falcons five months after signing a new 10-year deal
