Football season seems to fly by. I can't believe the year is almost over and football season is rapidly drawing to a close. At least we still have college basketball to entertain us.

Every year seems to go by faster. Maybe it's just getting older, football season used to seem longer even though there were less games.

I hate the whole targeting thing. It's gone way overboard.

I understand the intent of the rule. However, it is not consistently called. Too many times I see plays that really shouldn't be targeting called and plays that are targeting not called (the UT-A&M game is a good example). I think targeting should only be called on plays where a player launches and squarely hits the other player in the helmet. Plays like we just saw should not be targeting.

I agree. I think the targeting rule is good in theory but is over-used. Its football, not a tickling contest. Its a collision sport. There are going to be hard hits. Save the penalty for when its malicious and dangerous not just because it fits some detailed definition.

You said it. I changed the channel after that call was upheld. I watched the replay as many times as it was shown. Not targeting.

Either it is, or it ain't. The rule should be "If you're not sure it is targeting, then it's not." Instead, the rule is "If you're not sure it isn't targeting, then it is."

For every one they get right, they seem to get two wrong. Crap rule, and crap system when the officials can change the lineup over a call like that.

Defensive coaches are going to move the aiming point to the thighs/knees. Can't blame them, but watch how quickly THAT gets addressed.

Go Vols.

Another freaking joke by the officiating crew. This targetting call is even more ridiculous than the last one...

Well said. How some of these hits are called targeting, even with the benefit of replay, is mind boggling.
