Boise State v. Virginia Tech Predictions

This is boise's only real test beside maybe oregon st. until bowl season so with boise having a lot riding on this game helps them but i think tech's great set of backs and their defense will be the difference but with boise who knows they beat Oregon last year and i predicted Oregon to win by a couple of touchdowns

Anyone care to explain why they think Va Tech will have no problem with Boise?

Virginia Tech will line up and smash Boise right in the mouth.

No spread out gimmicks, just 2 NFL caliber TBs running against an outmatched defense.

The game will be close for about a half and then VT takes control of the game.

IMO this game is BSU's ticket to the BCSCG. Beat VaTech and there's nothing but cupcakes the rest of the way to an undefeated season. (OK... maybe Oregon State doesn't fall into the cupcake category.. but just barely misses.) Political rumblings left over from last year will make it hard for pollsters to deny BSU the NC game if they go undefeated. Accordingly, BSU should be highly motivated to lay it all on the line against VaTech.

BSU is higher-ranked in the polls. A day or so ago I saw that BSU is a 2.5 point favorite.

VaTech is closer to the DC area and has more fans in the area... but it's still a road game for them. Tickets are still available for the game.

Bet serious coin on VaTech?? No way IMO.

However, I hope VaTech gives BSU a severe beating. I'll be pulling for VaTech.

With the BCS Championship at stake Boise will bring their A game. Pending some serious jet-lag I think & hope the broncos win. It'll be a close one though.

I will be there at FedEx Field in my Kellen Moore jersey regardless of the outcome. =)

Boise St has played 13 yes 13 ranked teams since 2000. They went 6-7 against them, I'm not impressed, I'm taking the Hokies in a clown stomping. Fosters defenses are good, bsu's however gave up 500 plus to Idaho, plus a couple others last year.

i was under the impression vtech was down this year. anyone care to comment?

well, both polls are calling Va Tech in the top 10 (6 and 10), so i'm not sure really how much of a down year people were expecting, but it doesn't look like too much at this point

VT is down because their defense is young and unproven. History says that Foster will have them ready to play but until they do it on the field who knows.

Last year their starting RB blew out his knee in camp. The freshman who stepped in blew up and is considered as a dark horse heisman candidate. Last years starter is back from his injury. Both guys will be playing on Sundays.

Tyrod looked like his passing game turned a corner at the end of last year. If he keeps it up, their offense will be as explosive as when Michael Vick was there.

I think the game is close but Tech wears them down and wins by 10.

Boise will have to jump on them early. If they can get a couple of scores, then they would be able to hold Tech off. Beamer is not an aggressive play caller. If its tied or 3 point game at halftime, I think Tech will win.

I feel like if you took the same Boise State team and put a BCS team's jersey on them, people would be calling this the other way.

I guess we shall see. I think Boise State wins by 10.

See, now here is a totally unbiased post. Go Broncos.

And I feel like if they switched places with a real BCS team they would be picked third or lower in their conference anywhere but the Big East.

Really a team that won a BCS bowl and returns 22 starters?

I think what he is saying is that had Boise played in a BCS conference they would have had a loss or two and probably not have been BCS bowl material last year.

Not sure I completely agree with that, it would depend on which conference they played in IMO. They're good, can certainly win the big game when they need to but could they play a challenging schedule and have the same success, I seriously doubt it.

I think you just don't like Smurfs.

Big fan of Lady Smurf with that bangin little blue body. :)

Truthfully, I hope Boise can pull it off so I revel in the misery of Tech fans here.

Eh, I don't see it that way.

Virginia Tech is a legit football team.

Boise State isn't bad, but regardless of the conference, VT is a team that is going to be tough to beat for anyone.

they've been saying for 2 years that turner was turning a corner. i'm not sure when vtech reached "ranked every year in top 10 despite losing multiple starters" status, but i'm not sure it's justified. no way boise get's blown out. my gut says boise wins, but i'd be very happy to see vtech kill em.

I'm skeptical too of Tyrod but he did play smarter the last month of the season. If this game was being played out west I'd probably give a slight edge to Boise but with it being played in Tech's backyard I say Hokies grind it out.

I think most of you underestimate the boys from spudville. Kellen Moore's strengths are his decision making and his pocket presence. If he can distribute the ball (only 3 sacks last year and 5 as a freshman) we will get points. The real strength to this years time is NOT it's offense, its defense. Even with the departure of Justin Wilcox (congrats VOLs), the rest of the coaches are the same, this defense is ready to play and they go 3 deep. I was at the public scrimmage Saturday and the defensed DOMINATED. If we can avoid turnovers, I see us in a very good position to win it. I dont see a blow out either way.

Go broncs

I believe that BSU has derserved to be where they are at this point, but it will be a huge task going to VaTech's back yard in front of 100,000 people. I think VaTech will pound the ball and put heavy pressure on Moore. I get that you believe that Moore has great decision making and pp, but he hasnt faced a line and blitz packages that will be thrown at him in this game. Sorry, but I really think they are going to get dominated up front in this game on both sides of the ball.
