No, it is not acceptable imo to boo your own team. IF you don't like what you see on the field, don't go to the stadium. Fans not showing up get the attention of the administration quicker than anything.
If the energy of the booing was used for other, positive things it would help the team. Boos are low class imho. I boo referees, especially PAC officials.
Pro teams/coaches.....yes. College kids/coaches.....no.
Here's why. The lifeblood of College athletics/success is recruiting. Recruits don't want to hear boo's raining down on a team they are interested in playing for. If I was a recruit and I heard "fans" booing 18-22 year old kids, I wouldn't be too fired up to play for that fan base.
Moral of the story....BIG recruiting weekend for the Vols this weekend, DO NOT BOO!!! Please. It has a chance to get ugly, we all understand that. What kind of statement would it make to those recruits that are there to hear a supportive crowd instead of a whiny B!*@#y crowd if things don't go well.

We are going to have a lot of recruits at the game this week. DO NOT boo your own team. That shows no class and we don't need these young men hearing that.
For all the true VOL fans at the game, may I suggest a sign posted on your body saying. Warning !! Booing the vols may be detrimental to your health!!!!
Fans boo their own team and expect them to take the field and give 100% the next week. If the team turned and started booing the fans the fans would stick there noses in the air and never show up to a game again because they "don't deserved to be boo'd"
Imagine being a nineteen year old kid standing on the sidelines wanting to play. He gets in, messes the field, goes back to the sideline and people are booing him. Tell me what that does to his psyche, his spirit, his energy and his will.
I sat in section A at the USA game and there were 3 or 4 times Worley was booed by a group sitting in north endzone. It was very disrespectful.
A young man that is a competitor hangs his head when he makes a mistake, the boos only hurst hiz confidence. How these fans think booing a player is helpibg matters is beyond me. I bet those booing have never made a mistake in thier lives and most probably never made their high school team.
