Booing the Vols

Is it acceptable to boo your own team?

When Dooley played for overtime against Mizzou last year I have no doubt he knew those boos were directed at him. Let context be your guide. I wasn't in attendance for that cluster of a game but I would've boo'd my lungs out if I were.

Booing players is just wrong.

Imagine being a nineteen year old kid standing on the sidelines wanting to play. He gets in, messes the field, goes back to the sideline and people are booing him. Tell me what that does to his psyche, his spirit, his energy and his will.

In a scenario like that, ( I imagine ur referring to a 2nd stringer) why would someone boo? Unless it's directed toward the coaches.

How about a sarcastic cheer like when Worley completes a pass or we get a first down?

And that has ZERO to do with their mental maturity. All most of us are saying is how are the player suppose to know who the booing is directed toward.

And hey I'm not saying they shouldn't be mentally able to handle booing, but most aren't. IMO

a lot of those in the 83% are liars

Tennessee fans have a long tradition of booing, in fact. I recall a Knoxville Journal writer who, describing a game in the early 1980s when the fans were fed up with Johnny Majors lack of success, said something along the lines of, "they booed the team, they booed Coach Majors, the booed any play that didn't gain 5 yards, they booed everything except the national anthem."

If you don't believe that booing and trashing a player on VN and Twitter doesn't affect a prospect, then you are not in touch with reality. Some on VN will deny this in self defense because they like to boo and bash the players. Even if it doesn't affect everyone, there is nothing positive to come out of it except make the basher feel better.

All that said, criticizing the performance of a player is fair game if it is done in a respectful way. IMO. "He SUCKS", will benefit nobody except for the immature person who says or writes it.

Absolutely !!!

We are the consumer and with the massive investment that we all make into the program, via direct contributions, exorbitant ticket prices, purchase of concessions, purchase of clothing and souvenirs, and purchase of TV packages, we have an absolute right to demand a decent product, and show our displeasure when we don't get one.

If it were not costing us anything then we would have no right whatsoever to say anything bad or boo, but that is definitely not the case.

Without the fans there is no college football, PERIOD. College football programs are a business. Either businesses satisfy their customers, or face their displeasure. It's as simple as that.

OK. Does it make you feel like you have a bigger sack if you boo the players? Do you feel like you will grow hair on your chest? Will it help a player make a play? Will it make a prospect want to play for a fan base that boos and bashes its players?

Go ahead and make yourself feel better about your manhood. If you believe it will make a player do better or make a recruit want to be a Vol, you must be smoking something.

If only someone could tell the rest of us that aren't "getting our moneys worth", what possible good could come from it, it might change our stance.

Bettin nobody has 1 valid point as to how it helps.

There is no question that we have all the right in the world to boo, post nasty comments on Twitter or do anything else to voice displeasure. The question is--is it the smart thing to do to encourage good play or make prospects want to be a Vol? I say no. You say yes because you like to boo and bash to make yourself feel good.

Pro teams/coaches.....yes. College kids/coaches.....no.

Here's why. The lifeblood of College athletics/success is recruiting. Recruits don't want to hear boo's raining down on a team they are interested in playing for. If I was a recruit and I heard "fans" booing 18-22 year old kids, I wouldn't be too fired up to play for that fan base.

Moral of the story....BIG recruiting weekend for the Vols this weekend, DO NOT BOO!!! Please. It has a chance to get ugly, we all understand that. What kind of statement would it make to those recruits that are there to hear a supportive crowd instead of a whiny B!*@#y crowd if things don't go well.

if the fans boo they will cause recruits to look at other schools and take tennessee off their list.so please do not boo saturday.those of you that do boo were the ones that thought cbj could get it done in year 1 with a empty cupboard.again i must say what does brick by brick mean. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many of you who choose to "boo" the Vols are obviously not coaches or have ever coached. The mental and emotional state of an 18 year old in many cases are very unstable to handle harsh criticism like booing. The best chances to develop a young player is to allow them to make mistakes and allow coaches to correct them. The hope is to have them make mistakes in practice rather than in games. Nevertheless, mistakes are going to be made in games. The best chances to develop young players is encouragement and support. Booing can destroy some players who are not emotionally mature.

Booing Worley is not the samething as booing the Vols . Booing bad coaching and play calling is not booing the Vols . By the time I spend $200 on tickets, parking, food and drink I expect something worth watching .And this has to be the worst Qb I have ever seen at TENNESSEE . O and I have seen Simms and Crompton play. He!! I was there when UGA made crompton look like a world beater.
