I'm rereading the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny - it would make an absolutely outstanding series of movies or mini-series.

What say you?

One of my favorite stories is Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck. I see it was made into a movie in 1942. I need to check it out but it would make an awesome Cohen Bro.s' movie.

Travels with Charley. I always found the part where he came into the motel and it was empty as weird.

I also think there are a ton of HP Lovecraft shorts that should be made into movies. Most of the ones that have been done are horrible.

Dante's Inferno could be made into a very good, effed up, but good movie.

Actually, I always thought the Great Train Robbery by Michael Crichton would make a good movie. Found out recently it was made into a movie a long time ago with Sean Connery. I've since seen it and it's very good.

Started but didn't finish Travels with Charley. Not that it wasn't good, I just put it down and never got back to it. Steinbeck is at the top of my author list.

Surprised that more Lovecraft hasn't been made - it's well suited to the CGI/action model that Hollywood loves to feed us.

Steinbeck had a very good way of placing you in the moment. I read another book by him, I can't remember the name right now, about a grocery store manager who wants to own the grocery store. It was very vivid in placing you in the moment. I also love Hammet and Jim Thompson alot.

They filmed some in my hometown. They had part of old downtown area redone to look like the 50's, they had "White Only" and "No Coloreds" signs all over town for like a week. Caused a little stir but I think it's going to be good.

The book is WONDERFUL. Hope the movie can match it!

Haven't read any Hammet but have read a few Thompson's (Pop 1280 and the Transgressors).

If you like Thompson you might like John Burdett's Bangkok series.

In addition to Steinbeck, Charles Bukowski is at the top of my list.

Blood Meridian-Cormac McCarthy
Could be a good movie.

In the works, but I'll believe it when I see it, was originially supposed to be this year. Kinda torn on this one, one of my favorite books but might be tough to pull off.

Blood Meridian (2011) - IMDb

I'd love to see the Coen's tackle Suttree.

There's been a lot of McCarthy love from the movies in recent history but Suttree might be a little bit harder of a sell then No Country or The Road. Having spent my 4 years in Knoxville while at UT, I'd love to see it though. Would be cool to see them recreate it during that time period.
