Bottom Line

Coach came to the hill with the rep of being a great defensive coach. They play the worst D I can remember any UT team playing. I have never seen a team that can play great one game then look lost the next game

This is a point that can't be denied and I have said it myself. The question is why would you proclaim yourself as a hard nosed defensive minded guy if your teams don't show that mentality at all?

I've came to the conclusion that it was much easier for him to say that was his philosophy and not be exposed as someone who really don't know how to coach the game. Even though it is at equal importance it takes much less knowledge to coach defense than offense. He knew if he claimed to be an offensive guy players and fans would be able to tell real early that he wasn't. With the defensive philosophy if they don't perform he can blame it on effort not coaching.

Bottom line is that's why you're not an AD

Fire a coach midsession who's sitting at 10-5 and predicted to have his team dancing, brilliant.

Yea fine, you losers like to stick together. Keep supporting Cuonzo the Clown and enjoy the NIT first round loss to Podunk U, year after year.

really? if you read here often you would realize the fanbase thinks Tenn is Kentucky or Duke and the only reason Tenn doesn't make the final four every year is because the prophet Pearl was screwed.

The reality is UT has never been and never will be a basketball school and Bruce Pearl, although a good coach, was a lying POS that deserved what he got.

What a bunch of crap. We have a solid history of basketball at this school and this type of resignation should never, ever be expressed by a person in the UT AD. We have a lot of potential as a program and accepting mediocrity because we are a "football school" is absurd. Florida and Wisconsin seem to be doing fine as basketball programs where football is king.

Ohio State

You can show up on gameday and sometimes buy lower level seats...

They are a football school through and through yet have a very good bball program

Wisconsin hasn't won anything except hocky and track titles, good call. Fl has 2 national championships in bball and a better athletic department than Tenn has ever had. Nice comparisons.

Never meant to imply that Tennessee men's hoops was a UK or a Duke, however, our program has had a fair share of "moments" during my 40+ years of following them.

Several of the Mears years were incredible, DeVoe had a few good squads, Jerry Green took us dancing and, of course, prior to his fall from grace, the Pearl era was invigorating.

During these times, most notably during Bruce's tenure, this fan base would get solidly behind the program. Just don't think very many folks are going to get too excited and remain optimistic about where our program is and where it is headed under this staff. Attendance figures will continue to decline, energy level around the program will fall and, regretfully, we slip right back to the not so wonderful world of irrelevance.

Just my honest assessment, one in which I would love to be dead wrong.

I get this but do you think the decline of the football program had anything do with it? If the football team gets back to competing for titles again I doubt many people will care about basketball(men's).

Its amazing how people believe that good coaches and good programs who have their best team in 3 years, go 10-5.

Bottom line is we started playing puckered up, slow it down, try not to bury your opponent basketball again at a crucial time. Reverted back to walking it up. Standing around. Watching McRae force it. Took away all the ability of the players on the court with the 2nd half gsmeplan.
Not surprised. That's what sucks.

The Badgers have an ancient NC in basketball and a relatively recent Final Four, plus are currently undefeated and ranked in the top 3 come Monday. I'm fine with that type of success in Knoxville. Florida is a football school with basketball success. What's so hard about understanding the comparison in my critique of you, essentially, saying this is a football school, so we should just accept what we have?

Plenty of people care about the basketball team. We had plenty of sell outs during the late 90s football high water mark and excitement for those teams until people realized Green was about as equally effective as a coach as Martin is.

Tennessee is much better positioned to be an excellent basketball school than a football school in this day and age. You dont know what you are talking about.

Bottom line get the right coach and this is a BB school has well as a Football school, Pearl proved that. The coach we have now whats his name bozo is strictly NIT material.

Apathy is a program killer and that is where our fan base is heading with Men's hoops.

Does telling one lie make someone a POS, or does it take a history of lying?

I don't get the argument that we can't hope for both the football and basketball programs to be respectable. Honestly, it should be easier to return to form against the SEC in basketball. We have facilities that rival most any school in the nation and made, what, 6 straight NCAA tourneys just a few years ago?
