Has their ever been a bowl game in Neyland? Seems like a decent location with the Smokey's, Gatlinburg, Biltmore and Nashville pretty close by.

No I think first you'd have to get a sponsor. Usually a big company that's local like Pilot or Regal Cinemas or something

You may have hit on something that has had a negative effect on the bowls. They just do not seem as important as they did 40-50 years ago. The elite programs have bigger stadiums and game day experience than what you might find at some of the finest bowls. The bowls were thought to be the ultimate football experience back in the day. But when you have a Neyland Stadium and one of the best game day experiences in college football the bowl games are just another venue place to watch a ball game.

LP field is smaller than Neyland and they get mediocre crowds for the Music City Bowl. It's a cool concept, but unless it hosts a playoff/national title game, you won't be getting an impressive post season crowd.

Don't want Neyland to be the home to another meaningless toilet bowl. Would cheapen it.

Depends on who the fan bases are. Some fan based just don't show up

Good points guys just seems like a waste considering some of the crap holes that have games.

Used to it had to be a tropical location in order to host a bowl. With Boise & NYC having bowls, I guess that requirement is out the window. Back in the 80s it was kicked around that Neyland Sradium should host a Super Bowl. I think it was decided that it might be too cold & there might not be enough hotel rooms in the area. Since NYC is hosting the SB this year I guess that requirement is gone & I think there are enough rooms, esp counting Gatlinburg & PF

I remember scheduling a neutral site game at Neyland between two top ten teams to start the season on NCAA 2000 lol.

Yeah, if only we had the Tulane vs Louisiana Lafayette game in Neyland this week end. The Bag of Krystal Bowl.

Good luck OP. I started this same thread last year and got chewed up and spit out by the "knoxville doesn't have anything to offer!" crowd. I hear Boise Idaho is a really happening place in late December.

I doubt it would be worth it unless they got two major teams. And those type games are played in warm weather.

The chances of landing a Super Bowl are slightly less than me making the Olympics in Rhythmic Gymnastics.
