With all the SEC bowl tie-ins, the Vols will go to a bowl if they get to 6 wins. Period. Reasons why the Vols will go to a bowl:
1) extra practice time allotted to bowl participants under NCAA rules
2) additional television exposure (recruiting)
3) money
Back to the bowls. Georgia is a 6-point underdog to Florida this weekend due to QB Shockley being out. He is also expected to miss their next game against Auburn. I will be shocked if Georgia is not 7-2 after those 2 games..... and Florida would then be the favorite for the SECCG.
Florida will still lose to Florida State and finish the regular season 8-3. Georgia will struggle against Georgia Tech and finish either 9-2/8-3. South Carolina will finish 6-5 after beating Clemson in its final game. Vandy finishes 5-6. Ole Miss finishes 5-6 if they are lucky. Tennessee beats Notre Dame on the road to finish the season with a 2-3 record vs top 10 teams and 8-3 record overall.
Alabama (12-0) beats Florida in the SECCG. LSU (9-2) goes to Citrus Bowl. Hall of Fame Bowl takes Florida (8-4) even with 4 losses. Cotton picks team from SECW, Auburn. Peach picks up homestate team Georgia. Music City picks up homestate team Tennessee. South Carolina (6-5) has to go somewhere to help fulfill the SEC's contract. No other SEC teams will be bowl eligible.
SEC Bowl Tie-Ins
Sugar (Alabama)
Citrus (LSU)
Hall of Fame (Florida)
Cotton (Auburn)
Peach (Georgia)
Music City Bowl (Tennessee)
Independence (South Carolina)
Houston (none)
Note: Citrus Bowl is currently known as Capital One and the Hall of Fame Bowl is currently known as Outback.
