Bowl game

With all the SEC bowl tie-ins, the Vols will go to a bowl if they get to 6 wins. Period. Reasons why the Vols will go to a bowl:

1) extra practice time allotted to bowl participants under NCAA rules

2) additional television exposure (recruiting)

3) money

Back to the bowls. Georgia is a 6-point underdog to Florida this weekend due to QB Shockley being out. He is also expected to miss their next game against Auburn. I will be shocked if Georgia is not 7-2 after those 2 games..... and Florida would then be the favorite for the SECCG.

Florida will still lose to Florida State and finish the regular season 8-3. Georgia will struggle against Georgia Tech and finish either 9-2/8-3. South Carolina will finish 6-5 after beating Clemson in its final game. Vandy finishes 5-6. Ole Miss finishes 5-6 if they are lucky. Tennessee beats Notre Dame on the road to finish the season with a 2-3 record vs top 10 teams and 8-3 record overall.

Alabama (12-0) beats Florida in the SECCG. LSU (9-2) goes to Citrus Bowl. Hall of Fame Bowl takes Florida (8-4) even with 4 losses. Cotton picks team from SECW, Auburn. Peach picks up homestate team Georgia. Music City picks up homestate team Tennessee. South Carolina (6-5) has to go somewhere to help fulfill the SEC's contract. No other SEC teams will be bowl eligible.

SEC Bowl Tie-Ins
Sugar (Alabama)
Citrus (LSU)
Hall of Fame (Florida)
Cotton (Auburn)
Peach (Georgia)
Music City Bowl (Tennessee)
Independence (South Carolina)
Houston (none)

Note: Citrus Bowl is currently known as Capital One and the Hall of Fame Bowl is currently known as Outback.

If we lose (and that is a BIG if) to ND and win out, we will be 7-4 with our 4 losses coming to 4 ranked teams.  All 4 teams in the top 18 teams in the nation, 3 in the top 10, and 2 in the top 5.  EVERY game we were in till the end.  And I think that we will have a shot at ND but we will see.  So whoever thinks that we are 7-4 and not getting a bowl bid is crazy.  If you want to root for the NC or nothing every year that is fine.  You are going to be upset about 99% of the time.  I will take a bowl bid over nothing anyday!  :twocents:

In the game till the end?? Did you watch the Georgia game? We need to be in the Joke Bowl, because our whole team is a joke. BOZO the Clown could be our quarterback!

I watched the Georgia game. I believe the score was Georgia 13, Tennessee 7 midway through the 4th quarter. The 4th quarter is the end, isn't it?

I guess we were in it till the end...I mean we scored on the last play of the game and still needed TWO MORE TOUCHDOWNS. It was a real barn burner!

I basically agree with the poster who said let the players decide, as long as there is no reason for the administration to override them. They're the ones who do the work; we just get to watch, cheer or whine.

But a question: is it better to go to ANY bowl, --even, say, the Independence -- in order to add to our bowl appearances record, or to say that there is a level beneath which we will not stoop. I mean, how many times have you laughed at teams going to bowl games in Shreveport?

Personally, I wouldn't mind the Music City: after all, Bama went there last year (and was subjected to Rocky Top by the Minnesota band).

I think any bowl is worth it if for no other reasons than addititional exposure and the extra 2 weeks of practice that you get.

Let me add to that if I may. Also you get another needed game of real time experience for us to build on for the next year and years to come. You see teams that you never get a chance to see and get to challenge you team to gameplan for different styles of play. And yes, Wes is a bama troll

Speak for yourself.  I don't care what our record is in the Dome, I like it when they play an hour from my house.

We are about an hour and a half, if you drive like a fighter pilot, an hour, maybe 45 minutes. But the cops along the road, just outside of ATL are ruthless.

What bowl game will tenn go to assuming that they lose to ND?  I say assume they lose cause this is the team that gave USC hell

Aren't we making a bit of an assumption of even going to a bowl game at this point? Baby Steps...starting with stepping on RS.

I have grown to hate the Peach bowl...maybe losing it twice in a row did that to me, but i just hope we get a descent bowl, with a team that will be good to watch us play.

That sounds good on the paper... but that logic did wonders for this season, didn't it? Maybe A&M was faaaarrrr worse than they looked during the season? Maybe last year's Vols had "it" and lost "it" over the summer? I dunno, but they sure didn't build off that win.
