Bowl Projections this week UT still in - UF out

I really hope you are right!

I mean, Vandy is a better team than they have been in the past. No doubt about it. But the teams that they beat in UGA and FL were but a mere shell of what they were in the beginning of the season when we played them. Even as bad as our defense has been playing, our defense has still had to deal with MUCH better offenses than what either Vandy or UK will put on the field. I really like our chances, and as I said long before the season started, I'd be happy with 6-6 in CBJs first year, especially with this schedule we've had to endure.

The "mere shell" reasoning reminds me of the comments about Mizzou before we played them. And then the next week how we match up better against AU and all of their wins were at home (- A&M).

I like your optimism. What have you seen that makes you think we will beat Vandy?

Hmm… IDK. We beat SC at home, had GA beat except for horrible luck at home.

The only way we lose to Vandy is if Franklin is smart enough to realize he should replace his starting QB with the fastest player on his team. We'd have no chance then.

I am surprised at that. After watching this team in person on Saturday I think it is a stretch to say we should beat anybody. Many do, but many players just don't give maximum effort. It was a shameful display of lack if contact. It is hard for me to fathom that we have people starting who won't block, or who don't try to get off of a block.
Have our corners gotten off a block in the last 3 games? Or our defensive ends kept contain?
We actually had wedge blockers on kickoff Saturday who didn't TOUCH a single player. That's why we couldn't get a kickoff return out past the 20.
The other frustrating thing is that there were 3 major clips right in front of the ball carrier and the official on 3 of their big plays on special teams. I was astonished they didn't get flagged for those plays. Just an all around bad day on the field for UT.

We get two weeks for Vandy, just like USCe and that worked out pretty good. Vandy only had 183 yards verses Florida's top 5 defense. I honestly believe, if we hold them to under 400 yards(very doable), we win. Vandy thrives on turnovers and they got them against UGA and UFL, they didn't versers Johnny Football or Mizzou.

We still didn't have the breakout pass plays against Aub but we're getting closer. Two more weeks for Dobbs and receivers to get sync'd up will help immensely. If we run like we did last week and further develop our passing game. We take Vandy by 10+. No more PREDICTABLE plays with Pig, give him something new or use him as a decoy.

Also, our special teams have been awesome this year, but they were MIA last week...must never happen again. Other than the return of our run game, winning on turnovers and Palardy, last week was abysmal. But even Palardy would tell you that touchbacks would have kept a score and several dozen return yards off the table.

Unfortunately a win over vandy is no longer a given, they will come into Neyland confident of victory. The 41-18 debacle at dudley should be enough motivation.

This and the fact that 21 pts on Sat came off turnovers, meaning they only scored 13 points on sustained offensive drives down the field. If we control turnovers, we will beat Vandy. Besides, Butch is already 1-0 against Franklin :loco:

Really wish we had beat UGA.

Beating Vandy won't be easy and I think with this year's SECE 7-5 would get you a pretty decent bowl.

Dobbs, Lane and Neal will all rush for over 100 yards, North, Croom and suprise player catch big passes. Pig moves the chains with possession catches. Downs reemerges from witness protection. Swafford and Randolph get picks. Sutton and double team contain Jordon Matthews. Vereen, and Miller get sacks, BigMaC gets fumble recovery.

James Franklin gets scalped...oh nevermind.

Vandy did beat UGA and FLA this year. I love the Vols, but when was the last time we did that? I would say we are in for a tough, tough game. Realistically, they are +10 to 14 points better than we are. However, if we catch some breaks along the way, we could pull the upset.

You know we gave up 444 yards rushing to aub but only 479 yards total to our 354 yards. On that alone we were competitive with aub...BUT when you add in 312 yards on returns, let the blowout begin.

The return yardage accounted for two touchdowns and set up at least three other scores...about 24-27 points. We still would have lost but we would have been within a score. Of course, aub could have scored more on offense if they thought that they needed to.

Bottom line: addressing the return yards alone will make us competitive.

Other than Matthews, does Vandy have any SEC speed players?

Enough to beat GA and FLA

They really need to get Pig and Croom in 1 on 1 match ups with their LB's on third down. I hope they use this bye week to get JRM some reps so he can get on the field and bring some speed to the LB position.

Florida lost 9 starters to injury and a lot of confidence since we last played them. Florida had a bye to prepare for us and Peterman debut was a disaster. This was before Worley and WRs started gelling.

UGA was decimated with injuries after playing us and Mizzou. They were down to their 3rd string RB, and 4th string WRs among other injuries. Plus they lost control of SEC East the week prior to Mizzou (low morale).

Excuses? Yes
Valid? Yes

Vandy becomes bowl eligible this week vs Kentsucky - Franklin loves to celebrate so maybe they will have a letdown

If Sumlin doesn't go to USC, I hope Franklin gets hired there. I miss the pitiful Vandy teams of years ago. He has turned around a program in the SEC that was a doormat.
