Clawson took over a bad program, turned into a good first year. He's a good coach, and a great guy. He will succeed where he goes. Fulmer is fat, lazy, and can't coach X's and O's - he Keep Virginia or Louisville in the dumps of cfb.

Fulmer lost his touch, and Clawson was not a good fit for UT. The combo led to the inevitable CPF disaster season.

It is a mystery why Clawson was so horrible at UT last year, but has done decent elsewhere.

THANK YOU CLK!!!!!!!!! UT has an offense again.

listen, by no means am I an advocate of Dave Clawson to the point that I think we should have kept him, or that he is amazing - but if you watched Bowling Green play this year, their offense is nothing like we ran last year....not even close. Their offense looks more like the true Spread offense, similar formations and plays to teams like Cinncinatti or even somewhat like Florida, or even Auburn. Our offense last year looked like the same crap from 1992.

Exactly, it's hard to find any tiny bit of last year's offense that resembles what Clawson runs. I think it's pretty obvious whose offense we saw last year.

It's not a mystery at all. Go back and read some of the quotes in the paper from some of our offensive players; they were offended and annoyed that they were being asked to learn a new system, complained about how "hard" the terminology was, etc etc. A sense of entitlement permeated that program from top to bottom.

My sarcasm meter is down, can u clarify your last sentence?

I'll go ahead and clarify for him.

Stats for the finalists of the Biletnikoff Award:

Name (School) Receptions Yards Touchdowns
Freddie Barnes (Bowling Green) 138 1,551 16
Jordan Shipley (Texas) 99 1,292 11
Golden Tate (Notre Dame) 93 1,496 15

Feel free to check out freddiebarnes.com sometime.

Freddie didn't put up those kind of numbers under Gregg Brandon. It wasn't until Clawson got here that he essentially doubled his production and started putting up those kinds of video-game type stats.

To Rockytophigh: I can't tell if you misunderstood what I was saying or not. My basic point was that I'm happy with Clawson as BG's coach, and don't blame him for 2008 at UT either. But even with that, I've grown tired of looking back. Both programs have moved on from bad situations last year and look to be headed in good directions for the future, and I'm happy to leave it at that and just enjoy where we are now.

Clawson has always adapted the offense to the personnel. Last year was destined for failure because there's no offense that can be successfully run with Greg Adkins recruiting and coaching an offensive line.

It's not a mystery at all. Go back and read some of the quotes in the paper from some of our offensive players; they were offended and annoyed that they were being asked to learn a new system, complained about how "hard" the terminology was, etc etc. A sense of entitlement permeated that program from top to bottom.

I'll say that having my background in a very basic offense with very basic terminology was both a blessing and a curse. It was a colossal pain in the ass to have to learn something with terminology that was more on par with what an NFL team would use than what a high school team would ever use, and it was a bigger pain to have the person in charge making constant adjustments both at the beginning of every week ("okay, we can't run the most basic plays right after 7 weeks, so let's add five more plays and three formations!") but also mid-week.

On the plus side, having to deal with that gave me a great appreciation for the simple terminology. Every playbook that I've gotten my hands on and adjusted to my own liking has had significant alterations made to formation names, play names, numbering systems, etc. to make it as easy as possible for anyone to learn quickly and enable them to act decisively on the field.

That still doesn't excuse what you quite accurately describe as "a permeating sense of entitlement" from the 2008 players at UT who had Clawson over them.

Clawson has done a good job at Bowling Green and at Richmond.
