Texas high school football has such an emphasis that you rarely see skinny Texas boys go to college and get tons better. They are very good in HS and then they are about the same in college.

Some areas and some schools (Pahokee) have a reputation for having kids who do not have a strong weight program, are not big enough and who you bring in and build up.

It appears to me that Coach Gran is bringing in lots of guys he thinks he can make tons better than they show in HS, and Orgeron is supposed to be a master at that as well.

I am going to say that it is rare for any recruit in the NE of the country to have excellent year round training for football like he gets at a good college, I am also going to say that lots of kids in Florida are not eating right, are not working out enough. Louisiana always seems to have lots of raw diamonds in the rough as well.

What would be your favorite pockets for kids who seem to improve when they get to college?

Sab,
I knew kids who went to UT and ate right for the first time in their lives. It helped some fat kids get skinnier, it helped some skinny kids put on weight. I also knew kids who for the first time encountered a real weight program and they got absolutely huge muscle gains in their first summer when they were in town for school.

Kids from Texas showed up having had a freaking coach to help them out in jr. high. They were in good shape but they had less upside. Upside is what I am asking about, what areas consistently have underdeveloped talent?

The TE from the NE sounds like he may get alot better once he has more time in football injury free under our staff.

I hope this makes sense. When is a 4 star WR better than a 5 star? When he has been hurt alot and you are sure he will be better after a healthy season than the guy who has already physically peaked at 18. Does that make sense?

Meline is a great example of upside, and he will end the year ranked higher than he is now as a WR (Although he is not exactly under the radar). Jose Jose is a great example of upside. Bray has upside (too skinny now, needs college weight training).

Some regions and some high schools have more consistently underdeveloped talent than others. The best pee wee league, jr high level and high school football programs produce kids who have peaked already before they get to college. I am reminded of a bunch of the swoll white kids from Hoover High, who were good as freshmen in college and about the same as seniors.

This would be a great time to state again how important is it to show your children appropriate attention in their youth.

Reading this thread is like watching someone try to cross the interstate on foot.

I bet Ed Orgeron sits at the mall looking for emo kids in girl jeans so he can find the next Reggie White.

On a side note, I am pretty good buddies with Johnny Long and he is getting ready to open a gym in Knoxville if any of you guys want to get into football shape. That way whenever we tailgate, opposing fans will be deathly afraid of our Al Wilson-like Necks...

Cannot figure out how to edit the thread title. I did not get why the thread became lulz cats and then I reread the title of the thread. Guess I am not gay enough to think of it in that way.

Maybe if the thread was "Best places to find underdeveloped football players" I would have gotten some responses to the question I was asking.

Vader is pretty adept at changing thread titles. My guess is he stayed as far away as possible from this one.

Thread title reminds me of that creepy old man from Family Guy.

i dont think its just the title that is getting everyone.. its the fact that you spent a reasonable amount of time thinking about an utterly pointless topic, then decided to make a thread about it. i do like your enthusiasm for ut football, but you missed on this one.

That way whenever we tailgate, opposing fans will be deathly afraid of our Al Wilson-like Necks...

No one accused you of anything homosexual. Are you feeling a little insecure?

Everyone is cracking up and collectively e-shaking their heads because this is utterly foolish. You could only speculate about this because there's no way to land on a definitive answer. Impossible.

You said earlier the kids from FL don't seem to spend enough time in the weight room or eating right...ummmm, tell that to Jeff Luc!

I'm with ya. Makes a lot of sense.

Take this guy for example. He just so happens to be a skinny dude living in Florida....Looks to have an effing ton of "upside."
