LOSERS

*TENNESSEE — No Tobias Harris. No Scotty Hopson. No Kevin Ware. No Bruce Pearl. No reason to fear the Vols til about 2015.

*BUTLER — The Bulldogs celebrated the Return of the (Shelvin) Mack after last season by making a second Final Four run. Now that Mack is skipping his senior year, don’t look for Butler in New Orleans next April.

*MICHIGAN — Darius Morris was looking like the best point guard in the Big Ten.

LOUISVILLE — Cards didn’t need Terrence Jennings to walk out that door one year early.

*MINNESOTA — Tubby Smith endured too much roster churn last winter. He didn’t need to lose Ralph Sampson.

*NOTRE DAME - Carleton Scott. He doesn’t show up on many lists of the Top 100 prospects and his surprising decision to leave also leaves the Irish with only two remaining starters from the Big East runner-up squad.

With Bruce we could have been on probation for 2 years... Now we are irrelevant for 4 years.

we wouldn't have had Bruce for 2 years anyway so their opinion is kinda ridiculous

Not to mention Kevin Ware isn't really any good, either. Also, the only productive season UT got out of Hopson (and I guess Harris, too) happened to be Tennessee's worst in Pearl's tenure.

Unlike football it takes one class to turn a team around. If CCM can land a solid class we can be back in one year. Dumb to predict a random four year drought.

Judging TN before they even play a game next season is unfair.
It remains to be seen what a staff of guys that can actually coach can do with a stable or 4 stars whose resumes with the exception of maybe one read just as good as Pitt's last year.

Dixon had an 8 man rotation of 2 4 stars, 5 3 stars and a 5 star coming off the bench that played 15 min and averaged 5 pts and 4 rebounds.

Let's reserve judgment until at least December.

It'll be interesting to see what Martin can do with the roster he will have

Probation for 2 years with talent that would've likely left anyway in Tobias and Hopson. Not so sure Kevin Ware would've kept his committment either. Big deal, it is what it is. I wish people would get over this and move on...

Exactly. The 2012 recruiting class is the most important in recent memory for UT basketball.

His article is pretty accurate. This is going to be a tough year to watch, but Cuonzo will get it back in a few.

If those kids, play defense, hustle, and run an actual offense, there is no telling how much fun they will be to watch.

It has been awhile since much of an offense was in place at UT. I supported Coach Pearl but his offense was beat the other team down the floor for a lay-up or beat the other team down the floor and fire-up an uncontested 3 (worked well with Lofton and Smith for a couple of years).

The half-court 'set' was pass the ball around until somebody took a bad shot or have someone unable to drive, dribble into trouble and lose the ball.

I realize that I am exaggerating somewhat but I do believe that they will actually set-up and run an offense with Coach Martin at the helm. I believe that they will also play defense and hustle, otherwise we will be watching some walk-ons play a bunch of minutes next year.

It's funny how now that Kevin Ware is not coming to UT, everyone dogs him, just like they do Bryce Brown. Talent is talent. Just because he isnt going to be a Vol, doesnt mean hes going to suck. Give the kid a break. How many of you would, if you werent a die hard Vol fan like me, want to come to this program with all the uncertainty? Some will claim they would, but its not true.

Also, remember CBP first years here at UT? Buzz couldnt win with those guys, but Pearl implemented a system that played to thier strengths. If CCM can do that with the guys that we have, we will be fine....Elite 8? No, But we may be able to play with everyone we face.

He't not relevant though - he's probably going to be pretty average and would not have had the same affect that Tobias/Scotty would have had if they came here. If he wanted to make it more accurate he could reference Chris Jones having to go to juco route.. because that hurts us 100x more than another wing who cannot shoot consistently coming to UT.

I'm fine with stuff like this getting out to the public. Lower the public's expecations of us that much, so it will impress when Cuonzo is able to turn them into at least an adequate team. That'll be something he can take to recruits next year.

He's not going to suck because he isn't going to be a Vol. He's just not that good of a player. Look where he ended up.

Unfair to whom? That's what fans do. We discuss the players coming back, their strengths and weaknesses, anticipate where new players might be able to contribute, and form opinions about the possibility of success or failure. We'll find out when the season tips off how accurate we were, but making a rational assessment is par for the course.
