I think Louisville was probably better than Tennessee the entire way, not just at the end of the year. They may not have played that way the whole year, but I'd go as far as to say they were just a better team.

I agree.

Losing to Louisville that year was very respectable. Anyone here that says they saw TN reaching the 16 is a flat out liar. This year, as much as I hate to say it, I see us on early departure..... Love the coaching job of CBP, but Face it, if CBP ever wins the tourny, or even makes the final four, he's not gonna do it with a 1/2 court team. Go Vols!!

Everyone expected better than a sweet 16. They had just come off a sweet 16 season and had basically all contributing players returning plus Tyler Smith. They were preseason top 10.

Maybe its fair to say that CBP is great at coaching 3rd tier talent and making it overachieve. But the question remains can he take 2nd tier talent and win the big games? Until he's proven he can do this, we'll always be settling for 2nd tier talent. He needs to take a subpar team and over achieve, before he can bring in the great players.

Considering the shape the program was in when he came in, CBP has overachieved every year since he has been hired. Attendance has gone up, more Blue-chip players are considering UT, we've been finishing with over 20 wins, back-to-back NCAA tourney appearances...the list goes on...Anyway, the question no longer is "Will we get to the big dance?" its "What seed will we get this year?" Tennessee basketball will have its moment, just give CBP time to build.

He certainly overachieved his first 2 years, but that built up the expectations. You could go either way on year 3, but year 4 was a dissapointment. However, it's hard to gauge how good a team will be after losing it's 2 best guards plus a backup. Not only did we lose a lot of scoring in Lofton & JaJuan, but defenses have been able to clog up the paint b/c we haven't had good outside shooters. It's also hard to break a zone defense without being able to hit the 3.

Mississippi State has a couple of nice opportunities left at home. That Florida-Ole Miss game this weekend looks like a de facto play in game.

I am sticking with my original prediction of 4, but all three of those teams have ample opportunity to blow it as well. Surely Florida won't crap the bed 3 years in a row.

5 teams. One of those three will win the SEC Tourney and one will get one of the last at large bids. The SEC is a better overall this year.

It's going to take someone from the bottom half of the SEC winning the tourney to get five in I think. All three of the teams mentioned above have almost no margin for error.

Also, the SEC may be better overall this year, but as already noted within this thread, it ain't by much.
