Brad Stevens leaving Butler

Me too, I thought he would be a rare coach for life at Butler. Great coach, nothing but class. Best of luck to him in Boston.

I am very surprised that he left Butler. I guess Boston made him an offer that he couldn't refuse.

Always envisioned him as MK's replacement at Duke.

Bad for Boston. It's going to be a young team. Brad will have his work cut out for him.

This is surprising. Never pegged him as a guy that would be at all interested in an NBA job.

Bad for Boston? Y'all are nuts.

Also, who in their right mind would turn down the celtics to stay at Butler?

Golf is right. Win-Win for Stevens. He's still in his mid 30's. He'll get any college coach he wants and will have NBA ties to help boost his resume if it doesn't work out.

The man is very, very good defensively. He'll be able to adjust. But his offense was choppy at Butler. Even his per 100 numbers didn't look that great even though they played such a slow down pace.

But this is a perfect situation. He'll get to work with a young team so vets won't question him, will have time to develop his system, and doesn't have the pressure to win right now, but will get a organization that knows how to win.

The Celts get a great young defensive mind that understands modern NBA defensive concepts and has shown creative offensive sets. He's young, he's a really hard worker, and you can give him time to get his feet wet.

This is a great, great move for both parties.

This is an inspired hire by Danny Ainge. It keeps the fans and media interested in the Celtics while they are rebuilding. Ainge also gets the stats geek kind of coach he's always wanted while they stockpile picks and position for a big move.

If Stevens does a good job, he can stay for the next run when the Celts cash in the chips for the next big 3. If he goes full Pitino, Ainge can send him back to a college job of Stevens' choosing and get a coach with Finals experience to win Title 18.

He could go down in flames in the NBA and still be extremely saught after in college

Your right, I just never envisioned him as an NBA coach. I thought he would stay at Butler until a Kansas, Indiana or Duke type job opened up.

He might kick a$$ in Boston, wish him well.
