Brady Hoke named Michigan coach

Well, this is a good hire. I like Hoke. He's a steady hand and his team HAS ALWAYS improved consistently.

My problem is this: We all knew before Rich-Rod was fired Harbaugh was going to the NFL. Why not keep Rich-Rod next year? If history is right, he would have gone 9-3 next year. If he gets a good d-coordinator, a 10 win season would be possible. Hoke was going to stay at SDSU this year. Why not see what Rich-Rod had. Alas.

Let's see what he's got and hopefully returns Big Blue to prominence.

You can't be serious. A 2-win season for Michigan next year was more likely than a 10-win season.

Of course, Michigan is equally awful, is facing better competition and he would be fired by Michigan for the same records that he posted at Ball State.

Not even close. Michigan has the talent to compete in Big 10. They just had the worst defensive coaches in the world.

If Michigan State can go 11-1 in the Big 10, Hoke can probably get Michigan 10 wins by his 2nd or 3rd season. Michigan State is not good. Wisconsin was pretty much their only quality win and it was at home.

Hulkamania? How about HOKEAMANIA! Huh? Huh?

This isn't the worst hire ever but it's not the big-name hire Michigan needed to keep everyone enthused.

Rich Rod was not doing well but if you agee to change the entire philosophy of your program then I think you allow him time to get the personnel in place. Michigan will take longer to correct than Tennessee.

...as evidenced by their sparkling record against quality opponents.

You're right. Horrible coaching on defense had nothing to do with it. It's the players fault for poor defensive schemes.

I'm assuming that you mean three guys because their top 2 choices said thanks, but no thanks. Then they got stuck with Mr. Ball State/San Diego State.

I wasn't even counting Harbaugh. It didn't seem that he would even listen.

As you shouldn't. He was never going to go to Michigan. Not when a pro team less than an hour away from his current location was preparing an offer.

Wasn't Hoke the first to identify and had Bray locked down to SDSU, before Kiffin switched him?

Very surprised by the hire, but he apparently has an eye for talent, if nothing else.

They won seven games this year and had improved by two wins the last two years. Am I saying it was 100% guarenteed? No. But was it a possibility with a good DC? Yes.

Great hire for Michigan. Michigan is a great program, and I have faith that they will return to national prominence soon.

That's too bad for SDSU. I thought they were on the cusp of being one the better programs in the state.

Michigan's birthright, national football prominence, might very well go the way of the dodo. Recruiting enough speed to make it work is going to be an enormous challenge, given their weather and proximity to fast twitch recruiting locales.

Rich Rod had to pick his poison and recruit for his offense because the cupboard was bare, thus left the defense disastrous. We can point at the DCoord as the problem, but they flat out don't have any talent on that side of the ball. Makes our situation post Fulmer and Kiffin look good.

Someone's gotta start beating OSU on a regular basis. They're getting unbearable. Alabama unbearable.
