Brandon Huntley-Hatfield enters the transfer portal

Grant Williams was always a post player - just an undersized one. Barnes didn’t develop him into anything. He saw an undersized, big-bodied kid that was tough but being underrecruited because of his size. If Grant was 6-10 and that skilled, he would have had every school in the country after him because kids nowadays aren’t being developed to play with their backs to the basket.

Neither BHH nor Aidoo have ever played post before, but obviously Aidoo bought in. I’m not comfortable speculating on one-sided rumors that benefit one side far more than the other and also make a kid look bad, so I don’t know what transpired and really don’t care.

I’ll just say that there’s no position harder to develop than an 18-year old big. Point guards have been point guards their entire life, so they just have to get better and smarter. You’re telling a highly rated big to potentially be something he’s never been so far, while expecting him to do it immediately because of the number of stars next to his name.

Grant and Fulkerson are the only two who came to Tennessee and had some success early. None of the others have.

Say he goes to auburn and they choose him over Phillips. I would make that trade every day of the week. I see people saying that it’s USC who will get him, but Grant Ramey keeps saying that it seems like an FSU UT battle. If it is then I like our chances. Find out soon I guess!

FSU will pay. We won’t

BHH is being very unwise--and I'm trying to be diplomatic. At best he will make a lateral move--and it might not even be that. Dumb ego thing.

Woof. I’ve been avoiding this thread, but man that is the list of schools he has to work with? Unless he goes to Auburn, he’s taking a MAJOR step down in team quality and going to a much more unstable situation from a player development stand point.

I wonder how shocked his mom is. I bet she thought BHH would be some hot commodity and it’s turned out to not be the case.

Not to be mean, but this almost always the case. There’s 100 BHH’s every year. To think he’s the only one with his potential is ignorant. There’s more BHH’s in the world than ones who pan out. That’s why it’s smart to stay at a place where you’ll get developed and go on to the nba. Now homies future is up in the air and I doubt he’ll land on his feet. But I hope he does

BHH is extremely large and athletic. There may be 4 or 5 BHHs each year

BHH size and athleticism is good, but he doesn’t use it any so it’s kind of a moot point. He doesn’t attack the rim strong, stands up straight in the post, doesn’t chase down rebounds. Given the opportunity I’m confident he would float around the perimeter and jack up 3s all game.

Ok. All the NBA scouts, Barnes, journalists who say he has the highest athletic upside of anyone on the team, including Chandler… They’re all wrong.

I mean, he’s 6’9. That’s not what I consider “huge” for a big man.

You have dummies trying to convince him he can play the four despite Barnes knowing he’s a 100% post player.

Athletic upside and height might sound similar, but they’re two different things. Very few kids of his size play 100% back to the basket in the modern game. Look at how we used him at the 4. Notice how we listed him as a F, not a C. He has one big problem, his mother wants him to play 30 minutes a game, and score 20 so she can get a new house. He’s a good kid. His situation is rotten. If you listen to his teammates, coaches and even Rob Lewis, you’ll hear his problem is not talent or ethic. It’s people running his life. His mother is the reason he reclassified, and played college too soon too. His HS coaches will tell you he was crushed to leave.

You sure it was all his mother and not his AAU coach? He has a history of kids reclassifying and those kids immediately transferring because they’ve been coddled.

Name one kid from that program that has stayed where they were.

What criteria are you planning to use for "athletic ability" in this situation? When/if he participates in a combine type setting that is structured to evaluate his athleticism, he will not put up impressive numbers. His vertical leap, not elite. His speed, not elite. His quickness, not elite. His explosiveness, not elite. He has good hands and is a fluid athlete with no coordination issues. That makes him a good athlete for his size. He is nowhere near elite as an athlete.

Also a great point, and many think he’s on the take. In this case, his mom is definitely the heaviest hand, but I don’t disagree with you.

I’m not planning to use anything. I’m currently using it. We’re operating in the present tense. If you listen to Lewis, he said the coaches (Schwartz and Barnes seem to be who goes on the record with him) said he has the highest upside of anyone on the roster. He’s young. He’s undeveloped. He’s also a kid that scouts, coaches and journalists see as having a promising NBA future. The attributes you listed are your personal opinion regarding a subset of his attributes. Google BHH scouting report and note that every one refers to his athleticism as a positive attribute. I’m sorry you disagree. Text your favorite team and tell them not to sign him.

The only person that played any meaningful minutes, that was less athletic than BHH last season, was Uros.
