Brandon Huntley-Hatfield enters the transfer portal

The 30 minutes isn't even the most ridiculous request of the phone call. He wanted to handle the ball more and play a point forward role as well. He ain't coming back
Doesn't surprise me. Like I said in an earlier post, his guard preference has been something allowed/fostered by many a former coach, and he never developed any post moves. It shows and he is exposed on the block at this level. Sounds like he's looking for some place that will continue to coddle those desires (demands) and won't challenge him to be what his body has already dictated he is.

If the kid actually said that to Barnes, he either has a very large set or he's saying what he was told to say be his advisors. Either way, if true, the door to return is not just closed but welded shut.

I'm not optimistic, but he's apparently waffled back and forth a couple times on the idea of transferring since the middle of the season. Who knows what decision he'll land on, but I think Barnes is fine with whatever decision BHH comes to in the end. Doesn't sound like he is going to chase after him.
It was only 4 weeks ago when BHH informed Barnes he would be back. This whole recruitment and ensuing season has played out more like a soap opera than anything else. I wish BHH the best, but he is a kid and too young and naive to understand that everyone wants to use him for their own personal gain. What a shame. The sharks are always circling the waters.

Since when has it not been like this? NBA just needs to lower the draft eligibility age and be done with it. There’s more of a support system now for guys who don’t get drafted - d league, international. If they want to be pros, let them be pros.
We aren’t talking about leaving to go pro. This is about the transfer portal making it easy for an impatient kid to leave because his relatives/handlers are in his ear. Don’t have to sit out a year like they did before. Going pro is an option if they are good enough. BHH isn’t in that category yet.

He's 6'10 245 that can create his own shot and create for others. He's strong as an ox and a solid fluid athlete for his size. Has all the makings to be a really good collegiate post player.
If he gets the work ethic part down. So far he doesn’t have it.

Just because you and others treat Barnes like a deity than would never do anything wrong doesn't make it true. We have had 7 kids transfer out since last April. If it was any other coach in the SEC you and others would be screaming they must hate playing for that coach and why would anybody go there.

So are we recruiting over kids? Sure, but I highly doubt we are telling them when they commit and sign they will probably get recruited over next year and need to be looking.

Are we doing a poor job of evaluating kids and their fit? Are we taking kids we know don't fit the culture but telling them otherwise and then will process them out later if it falls flat?

Part of it is the nature of the college game today, but that is a whole lot of misses for a coach who seemingly everyone and their mother seems to know what kind of coach he is. There is something amiss with the situation.
This ain’t rocket science. If a kid and/or his parents or handlers think he’s not getting the PT they think he should be getting, the system has now made it much easier for players to bail. I think Barnes is certainly more stringent than some others like OneCent Hardaway who tells them what they want to hear and then plays the 5 star over kids that have worked hard in the program for several years. Example-Emoni Bates and we saw how that worked out. It dang near destroyed that Memphis team before changes were finally made. Barnes has expectations on how they will play or they don’t see the floor. Right or wrong, that ain’t going to change nor should it.

This hurts. Kid had enormous potential, love what I saw in the last weekend of the season. Could have been the best big man since grant williams and Wayne chasm before him. Hope the talk about his advisors and whatnot isn’t true, for the kids sake, bc if so they’ll ruin his career with all that nonsense.

There is absolutely nothing amiss with Barnes. He deals strictly in the black and white. No gray in his vocabulary. Keep putting out those seeds, but you are clearly wrong.

How did you obtain this information…..were you in the room with the coaching staff?

The same places I've gotten the rest of the information. And no im not telling you who those sources are.

Feel free to keep score though of what I say and come to your own conclusion on whether the info is legit or not. There is enough out there for you to make a judgement call on whether or not its legit.

There is nothing black and white about college athletics. Barnes isn't immune. And that isn't a shot at Barnes. If you believe that i guess you're getting excited for the Easter Bunny to pay you a visit this weekend.

He’s a good ball handler in transition, but he wants to play on the perimeter in the half court and isn’t really very good at it. If he would embrace physicality he might be a solid post player as a back-to-the-basket scorer, but I think his halfcourt face-up game is pretty underwhelming. He’s not an explosive athlete and he doesn’t get much lift on his jump shot, so I’m not convinced he has as high an upside as people seemed to think coming in.

You’re a prick, but everyone knew that.

Rumors that BHH was unhappy and wanted to transfer have been floating around since November. He is the typical 5* story of a player who does not want to be here and wants to go to the NBA. Trouble with him is he is not good enough to be a one and done so he blames the staff. Outside looking in the staff did everything they could to make him a better player. Jimmy HYMEN on the "Sports Source" said he thought Barnes should have played him more to develop him as a criticism of the UT staff if their was a fair criticism to be made of Barnes after the season. What I saw in Nov. December and early Jan when he did get playing time was a player who was lost on the court and was not ready for prime time. No matter how we come down on that subject was he developed or not by the staff he did not look good when given the opportunity to play early on. When he was put into the rotation It took him a game or two for the light to come on to be able to contribute IMO.I do not think he will be happy anywhere in college and if any NBA teams would take him and put him into the developmental league he should just go for it. For Tennessee moving on we need a big bruising defender in the middle to inflict pain and punishment who can rebound. The elite teams have this character on their roster. We have Uro but he is not athletic enough and we need another goon to put on the court. college BB is letting them play, hit, bang, and draw blood, lets find and sign a goon.

Agree on everything. I just hope the Big you’re speaking of can make a basket down low on a consistent basis.

Yes: Another classic example of a 5 star who's been told for years how great he is, how he's NBA material; no doubt parents eager for some of his supposed future NBA $$. He and, especially, his feckless handlers no doubt viewed him as a one-and-doner, like Chandler, and so were pissed that he didn't get Chandler's PT and exposure--because he wasn't ready for it and wasn't good enough for it. The downside of the 5-star recruit....

This will be his 6th school in 6 years. I think that says it all.

BHH was discussed extensively during the Sports Source show yesterday on the Sports Source You Tube channel.

Segments 6 through 9 revolved around BHH and they also discussed whether Barnes could make a big splash in the portal.

Very interesting show.

The Morehead State kid is waiting to see if Tshiebwe enters the draft. If so, he’ll get a UK offer and will end up there.
Broome will be a difference-maker wherever he lands. That kid does everything you want a big man to do and seemed very mature for a freshman. I could see him in the NBA next year if he wants to go that route. I would trade 3 BHH's for him.

Why do some posters get so upset and immediately trash kids who decide to transfer? Grow up. I'm sure you were a fan of his until he decided to transfer, then all of the sudden he doesn't have a good work ethic, has a bad attitude, is stupid, and will never play in the NBA. Good lord.
Grow up? Seriously? All I did was point out the decisions he has made and the stuff already being said and written about him before he came here and while he was here. I did not call him lazy or stupid just pointed out you have to be exceptional in all 3 categories and he has yet to prove to be and his decision making has left lots to be desired. I also pointed out that his inner circle is pushing him to make decisions that they are not qualified for. I am not one of the posters here bashing Alonte Taylor for not playing in the bowl game or jumping on here as soon as the baseball team goes down a couple of runs and saying how they are not true Vols. Don’t generalize me all while virtue signaling on your behalf. You really must just want to argue with someone smh. I guess you did not read the parts of my posts where I said I hope I’m wrong or he has potential.
