Cade played here? And Tee’s son isn’t good.

Amari Rodgers made the NFL and was a star at Clemson. He's good.

But I agree with your overall point. The instate thing is overrated. Not every kid wants to stay instate. If that were the case, Tennessee would historically be a trash program. We've made our hay by recruiting kids who wanted to leave their homestate.

I'm thinking the poster was referring to the one that was at Catholic last year. He went to, I believe Miami on a baseball scholly

And yet, the Middle Tennessee area sends exponentially more talent to UT than East Tennessee does.
True - - However east Tn is much like west Tn many small rural towns that for many reasons just don't develop a whole lot of top level talent. ( My town is a prime example, on any given year I can walk down the hall of the only high school in this county (Hardin Co. look at the size) and find more raw talent (size, speed and strength) that is to be found on the football team). Many things inter into this problem and not the topic to explore in this post. But as a response to your statement, the population centers of east Tn do provide many good players (and just like mid state, too many go elsewhere)

Thing is, when East Tennessee does produce a 4 or 5 star, he goes elsewhere. Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, Harrison Smith....they all left. Cade Mays ended up at UT, but he signed with Georgia. When the Nashville area produces a top tier recruit, he's more likely to go to UT than a top tier recruit produced by the Knoxville area.

Yet some folks in East Tennessee want to act like UT is the University of East Tennessee. Middle Tennessee has been a bigger reason for UT's success. And Neyland Stadium is chock full of Middle Tennesseans on gamedays, as the procession of Vol cars on I-40 East on Saturday mornings evidences.

You are correct. I have often wondered way those guys go somewhere else so often. Does the UT staff tend to "take these guys for granted"? One that comes to mind is the guy who went to Ky and now in the twilight of a HOF type career with GB.

Maybe they just didn’t want to play in a disfunctional program like UT at that time? Maybe those type recruits would play for the current UT under Heupel?

He wasn't an under-the-radar guy who fell through the cracks. Barnes took a swing. He had 2 visits. But we missed.

It's not like we can kidnap them and force em into orange.
We kidnapped Condredge Holloway for a 5 day weekend and it worked.

Fulmer and Majors pretty much got the East TN guys they wanted; Little man Stewart, Reggie Cobb, Shazzon Bradley, etc
I think in some years we’ve won and some years we’ve lost. The bottom line is that kids want to win, and winning more often than not trumps loyalty. Leroy Thompson was an example (#1 RB in his class) from east Knoxville. Majors fought hard, but in the end he wanted to play away from Knoxville. Joe Paterno won. Trevor Lawrence would have played for Tennessee if not for the dysfunction.

I think this will change with Heupel. He seems to be interested in Tennessee talent. That was not the case with most of our last 4-5 coaches.

All I’m saying is Tennessee has every means to influence a kid to their school I don’t care if they are legacy are not. I hope they are using that influence because I’ve never seen the kid play until last night and you can tell he is gonna be great. Even Izzo said he is a young Durant. I bet you don’t see Ohio State Alabama Georgia losing in state 5 star players of his caliber!

So cheat?

Tee has multiple sons, thought he was talking about Kaden.

I know a guy who played with Bill in the NBA. Said Walton invited him over to his apartment one night for dinner. All he served was beer and bean sprouts. Told Bill “the next time…dinners on me and we’re going out!”😂😂

Walton should have had dinner catered or he could have called Domino's and have them deliver.
