Braves not meeting Rainbow's wishes

i'm so sick or J. Jackson. who cares, even in studies it shows that african americans are losing interest in baseball. i don't see him going to the nba and saying there should be more white players on teams. i honestly wouldn't mind seeing someone beat the living crap out of him

Definitely just a guy seeking headlines. The preposterous thing about it is that the Braves have several guys on the roster of African descent (Andruw Jones, Willie Harris, Edgar Renteria, Rafael Soriano etc). . . they're just not all American born.

The article says less than 10% are black, league wide. So really there are only 2 to 3 per team if that is the case. I highly doubt this same group would be pushing the Hawks to look for white players if they didn't have any on their team.

The preposterous thing is the whole thing. Last I checked the Braves are winning at around a 60-65% clip. I believe that is the job of the GM. To build a team that wins along with a few other things. Not sure where in his job desription he is supposed to maintain some type of quota for certain races.

While I can't stand Jesse Jackson, whites aren't the minority in this country so saying there ever should be a push for more white players is a bad argument

His comment was that they were of African descent...not African American. I'm not sure about Renteria, because he is Colombian. But, Soriano is Dominican...which almost certainly means he is of African descent ... like Adruw Jones...who is not African American...but is of African descent.

They are the minority in pro basketball and this is a discussion about sports, so in this context it does apply. We aren't talking about the country as a whole just sports.

So would that make him an African-Dominican American?
Or just Dominican American?

they are the minority in not only in basketball, but also football. not sure what ur trying to get at here. its not like there is a whole lot of white football players unless they are on the line, or at qb. basketball there are even fewer. you don't hear anyone griping about how there should be more white players in those sports.

Wait till they get a look at the Thrashers line up. All hell is going to break loose.

I don't know if they have the same hang ups about putting the "African" label in the Domincan as we do... we'll go with African-Domican for now...or if he has US citizenship...then we'll go with an African-Dominican American, or perhaps more correctly...an American.

They are in some states and the difference is shrinking. Next time we'll use the Suns to make the point instead of the Hawks.

Thank you...I went back and reread the post. My bad

Jackson must have some child support payments due and it's time to shake down another corporation.

As I said, Jackson needs to go away. It is all about whether or not you are good enough to play at the highest level. Not for sure why he is complaining. There just aren't as many blacks playing baseball now as there used to be. It is a numbers game. The reason there aren't more white players in the NBA is because they aren't that many whites good enough to play in the NBA. I dont' think the number of white players playing basketball at the lower levels has dropped like the number of blacks playing baseball at the lower levels of the sport

I wonder why the Braves, or anybody else for that matter, even acknowledges Jackson anymore. What exactly would Jackson do if they had refused to meet with his cronies? Cry to the media? Like anybody pays any attention to him anymore. If companies would start refusing to acknowledge him and Sharpton they would eventually go away.
