1. Jones is a winning coach in smaller leagues, but still unknown if he can coach among the elite. While he comes to Tennessee with a better track record than Dooley, he has done nothing to merit an SEC job with a task in front of him such as this.
2. Hart repeatedly stated he wanted to unite the fan base. This hire does the exact OPPOSITE of that. Not only is it a boring hire, it is one that was very vocally spoken out against.
3. Tennessee just came off of the "give the guy 3-4 years to prove himself" mentality. There is no way this should be acceptable ONCE, let alone two hires in a row.
4. Hart botched this one. Plain and simple. Maybe if Strong would've said yes or even Gundy, he could have justified those hires. There is ZERO chance he can justify the hire of Jone. The ONLY thing I want Hart to say in the press conference is, "Well, our first 8 choices turned us down..." If Hart gets up there and parades around as if Jones was his #1 pick all along, I swear I will come unglued. Unfortunately, I can see him doing exactly this.
5. Hart and Cheek have to go. Not so much because they absolutely have made Tennessee football the yearly laughing stock of the NCAA, but it goes much deeper than that. The main problem with them is that NO ONE WANTS TO COME WORK FOR/WITH THEM! It shows in all aspects--this "coaching search" is the culmination of humiliation exemplified through rejection after rejection after rejection.
6. Hart bombed this. From the get go. From the way Dooley was allowed to flounder. To the haughty and prideful declaration from him that HE would handle the entirety of the search and NO ONE would be involved. He is a one man show and unfortunately, this turned out to be a one man wrecking ball to a program with (once) respected tradition. To the public humiliation. To the unwillingness to put rumors to bed as other AD's do ALL THE TIME (see UofL's AD's statements and UNC's AD's statements...). The AD is the voice of the athletic department and he failed this very responsibility.
7. I cannot wait to start hearing the stories that will come out about the search. From boosters, AD members, players, other candidates. It is NOT going to end well for Hart, and sadly I say, for Tennessee either.
8. Coach Davis deserves a chance, as he is now the new coach. But, that does not mean that voices of displeasure cannot be voiced to Hart and the AD. Support the team and the new coach, but it has to be made clear that THIS is not what Tennessee should be. It should not be relegated to taking choice #10 on a list after being publicly turned down by even Joe Paterno himself. Something has to change. We have a new coach now. Unfortunately the management HAS TO CHANGE NOW OR WE STAND NO CHANCE IN THE FUTURE.
Edit:
9. Tyler Bray in a spread offense would look like Rosie O'Donnell in a bikini contest. Say goodbye to Patterson, Hunter, James AND BRAY.
