Breakdown On Signees

Everyone always picks on this guy... and yet every team seems to be looking for a tough receiver willing to catch the ball over the middle and block well.

Before the season and Ainge's double injury, Trooper called him a "deep threat". IMO, he looked more athletic than Lucas, Briscoe, Hancock, or really anyone else except for GJones.

In Roger's first full healthy year, he was second on the team in receiving and had a better ypc avg than everyone on the team with over 15 catches except for Lucas Taylor. here are his stats:

Rec-56
Yards-624
ypc- 11.14
TD- 4
ypg- 44.6

Those aren't the stats of a guy who was nothing better than a default receiver... much less a talentless WR playing for a team that made it to the SEC CG.

The thing I don't like about Austin are the bad drops, as well as he frequently jumps three feet in the air to make even the simpler catches. By the time he lands, he's lost speed and can't get any yac. If I were putting a depth chart together I'd have him fourth behind Taylor, Briscoe, and Jones.

agree 100%....he had some horrible drops, no excuse for some of his. yes he's tough and he's an effort guy, but some people on here talk like he's the second coming of Wille Gault

Austin Rogers starts for UT, would he start for USC?

Stat-wise, he was better than Patrick Turner :whistling:

Patrick Turner: 48 receptions, 569 yards, 3 touchdowns, 11.9 average per catch, longest catch 31 yards.

Austin Rogers: 56 receptions, 624 yards, 4 touchdowns, 11.1 average per catch, longest catch 32 yards.

Not to mention, Turner was surrounded by better talent therefore meaning you could argue Rogers numbers are even more impressive. Wait, what am I thinking, Turner was a 5-star. I take that back. Rogers cant possibly have better production.

given an opportunity to choose a wr for your team, who would pick between Rogers and Turner?

Right now, Rogers. Why do we continue to think our perception should be used in determining how good these players are? Rogers was more productive so that is who I want right now. If Turner actually produces something next year then I will change my mind. But right now they have both had their shots to produce and Rogers has done more.

Rogers has done more in his college career than Turner.

Rogers all the way.

One more thing Rex, look at Fowlkes or Abrams-Ward. They compare favorably to Patrick Turner. Big tall guys that are just as fast if not faster than PT.

you guys have to take into account that Tennessee did not have the weapons that USC did...kind of an "any port in a storm" thing

Or you could say that Patrick Turner should have been great and put up better numbers because of all the talent around him.

Teams shouldn't have been able to focus on one WR, thus allowing him opportunities to have one on one matchups and make plays. Instead, he was outplayed by Vidal Hazelton, a sophomore.

Or you could just be saying that Tennessee was throwing a warm body out there. He has no talent or skill. Yet he still outperformed a "5 star recruit", which damages your arguement too.

This is why sometimes recruiting is overrated. Skill level can be taught, but its hard to get faster.

Didn't Turner miss the first couple of games of the season? Also, Turner had to play several games without JD Booty.

Yeah, but w/ all of the talent at USC losing Booty shouldn't have mattered. Also, he's 6'5 and he should be dominating the Pac-10 D's, atleast in TD's by throwing the fade. I would say if he doesn't have a really, really good year he will be a bust.

I'd say losing your senior QB is relevant. Also, he missed three games.

Great players make plays regardless of the QB. Sanchez is/was more than able to fill in for JD Booty.

I thought he had only missed one game. Thanks for correcting me.

I had to look it up. Anyway, I'm not really very impressed with either of them. I think Patrick Turner will be much more productive next year if he can stay healthy. It seems like everytime I hear anything about him he's nicked up.
