I have a friend who went- he didn't invite me
Here are his comments- I enjoyed the Joakim Noah story:
I got to go to the breakfast this morning for Bruce Pearl. He said he would be doing some work for CBS this weekend for the final four. Primarily because of UW-Milwaukee and the success of GM this year. Also because he has played 2 of the final four teams and beat one of them twice. Should be more good pub for UT.
He also said that half of the Elite 8 teams from this year would be playing in Thompson Boling Arena next year with Memphis, LSU, Florida and Texas coming here. Also playing OK State in Nashville (I guess similar to the Murray State game this year at Gaylord).
He was great. My two best stories were:
1. During the Fla game at Fla, he said that Joakim was pumping his chest after hitting a shot and looked directly at Pearl. He said their eyes locked and he was not going to be the first one to look away. Eventually, Joakim came over to him and kind of smacked hands with him and said "Not in our house, Not in our house." He said he said I don't give a @#$#$^$%^&%^*&^* about your house! It's of course much funnier when he tells it. After the game he told him that he was wrong to respond to him that way, but he also should not approach a coach like that either. All ended well and he really likes the play of Noah. Also after he got hit, he said that he and C.J. sent him personal notes about breaking his tooth and that there was never anything mentioned by Noah, Donavan, Florida Athletic department or the SEC.
2. A question was raised about Wingate's improvements over this next year. He said he's going to get him into the weight room and try and make him a little stronger. Also talked about rebounding, obviously and that he was going to work on his shots. He said that I'm sure you all gasped (and made this long gasping sound) the few times he took a 15 footer jump shot. He said, I wanted to, but I try and keep an even face for the team.
Overall, was a lot of fun. One thing I really liked about him, he said that anything he says to the media or in public like he did today, he tells the players up front, these are the things that I am going to say when asked so you don't think that I am second guessing them. Also said on the Big Orange Caravan that Fulmer asked him after one of them, "Do you believe half of what you say?" He said he responded, "No." "But if I don't believe in these kids, then they will never believe in themselves."
PEARL FOR PRESIDENT!
